Candied Berries and Bourbon Vanilla
Lalique as a fragrance house, continues to amaze me. Their scents are both affordable and elegant, often put together by some very talented noses. Recently I've found myself enjoying scents with black currant as the main note, so I made it my duty to test the popular Lalique Amethyst.
When you first spray Lalique Amethyst, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's just another rich berry scent, along the same lines as Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy and Anna Sui's Forbidden Affair. Although this fragrance does open with juicy, candied berries, the heart and drydown establishes Amethyst as a serious and complex fragrance.
I absolutely adore the pepper in this composition. When blended with the black currant, blueberries and blackberries, the pepper softens the juicy aspect, even adding a masculine touch. On that note, Lalique Amethyst would make an excellent unisex fragrance.
It's one kick-ass fruity floral. Who knew that blackcurrant, peony, rose and pepper could work so well together? I'm so glad that Amethyst is not your typical 'girly', sweet scent. It has quite a commanding presence.
The drydown is a touch dry, woodsy and smooth. The more I wear it, the more I'm convinced that a man could definitely pull it off. I'd even suggest Amethyst to those that usually don't like fruity florals.
Lalique Amethyst is quite a dark, fruity fragrance, so I'd more than likely choose to wear it during the cooler months, however it could work on a warm Summer's night too. All in all, Lalique Amethyst is a quality scent that has average longevity.
