You’re quite Escentric…
I’m going to cut this as short as I can for those who don’t want to read on- this scent is alright, the bottle is beautiful and the price is a robbery.

It smells like rotten celery in the best way possible, but the vetiver(yl acetate) shines through. It’s like a mix of Chanel’s Allure Homme Sport Cologne (if it was left to oxidise for 2 years) and Lalique’s Encre Noire’s dry downs, the celery originating from the Allure and of course the vetiver and earthiness coming from the Encre Noire.

For some odd reason, I get a grassy note from the earthiness. It reminds me a lot of a day out at the park, and I would say that this is no doubt my scent for spring. It’s strange, but surprisingly quite mass appealing; if you like Encre Noire but you were disappointed by the Sport flanker, here’s the jack of all trades.

If you aren’t familiar with Encre Noire and still want to buy this scent, like many of the Escentrics and the Molecules, it is essential you purchase a sample before buying. I bought this off the basis that this was a quote ‘beachy Encre Noire’, and while that’s not exactly true from what I can detect, it’s close enough.

Speaking of detection, the sillage on this isn’t great. It’s solid, but it’s a personal scent bubble; you won’t get ‘Followed’ (if you know the reference). Longevity is decent, I get a good six hours before it ceases. Price to performance ratio is pretty poor at a retail value of £100 for 100ml, if not over that price. However, I would say this is one of, if not, the best Escentrics out of the line, however it could be argued that 04 is better but it’s all (skin) chemistry really.

The review ends here, but I really love the bottle. It’s very much reflective of the scent as a whole as well as the background of Escentric Molecules with the binary code dotted around alongside the linear minimalistic design. The green colour scheme is perfect summary of the scent profile.

Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular
I've had a bit of an up and down relationship with Escentric 03. While it's a fragrance that in theory (and in practice at times) I should enjoy, it just doesn't manage to ever scratch the itch it gives. The notes and concept behind this fragrance are immensely promising, and at times it delivers, but falls flat the majority of the time. The opening of 03 is heavily rooted in green citrus notes, with a heavy amount of ginger thrown in. The ginger is honestly the star of the show here, and really part of the reason I keep coming back to this one. As it dries, it stays fairly green, with vetiver being the main note, and an interesting warm/amber accord following in shortly after. It's a combination that works quite well, and that I do enjoy in terms of smell. I think the main issue with this fragrance is the formulation itself. At times, all of the notes are present and it is extremely powerful, but at others it barely lasts for a second. I've been trying to figure out why this happens, and my guess would be that maybe the balance between natural and synthetic materials here doesn't quite work right. I could be wrong, as I am certainly not a perfumer by any means, but it's still irritating how inconsistent this fragrance can be.

Despite it's shortcomings, I will keep coming back to this fragrance, as it's a very enjoyable fragrance scent wise, but the inconsistency of the formulation/performance is definitely a factor in my mixed feelings of this fragrance. I'd be curious to find another fragrance that smells the same as this one does, while being a bit easier to predict and wear. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know!

Easy grab for not an easy day.
Those who are used to my endless perfume ramblings might be disappointed: this scent, like every Escentric Molecule I've smelled, simply does what it's meant to do.
No storyline, no metaphors, no symbolic references or nostalgic flashbacks — just a fragrance that exists to smell good. And it does.
Perfect for those oppressively hot days when you still have to get things done, but don’t want to think too hard about your olfactory personality.

The young man's vetiver
That "Escentric 03" would be the first fragrance of the company to enter my collection was very quickly clear to me on paper. If I don't know exactly where to go, I usually tend to use vetiver as a first clue or even newcomer in the closet. And when I saw him standing in the shop at the beginning of the year, heavily discounted, I didn't hesitate for long (even without extensive testing)...

"Escentric 03" is a showpiece vector that keeps and brings across the balance between heritage and future, classic and modernity in an amazingly great way. It is most reminiscent of "Encre Noir", only brighter and more accessible and functional. The sharp edges of the vetiver are smoothed by a touch of iris, green pepper with limey splashes vitalizes the opening, balsamic tea tones give the whole thing a certain relaxation. All in all, this makes for a sharp all-rounder in front of the gentleman and any keyboard in the world. A fragrance that always goes, that never has to. Wind-blown, self-confident, completely under control and even a bit calming, bringing down. In a stressful time full of uncertainty and danger, it is a reliable anchor and reference point of sweet grass and leathery progress.

Flacon: futuristic, minimalist, strikingly inconspicuous
Sillage: inconspicuous, a fragrance for the wearer
Durability: generous, very solid 8 hours

Conclusion: Encre Noir Work. An absolute workhorse with me concerning the company and the job. Super beautiful, super orderly, super serious. For younger to middle-aged vetiver fans an unlimited tip!

Earthy vetiver
Geza Schön decided to enter the market with a concept that responds provocatively to the way perfumes are made and sold today.
Innovative. Controversial. Exciting.
With Molecule, you usually smell divine or you smell nothing.
While we sometimes perceive nothing or only subtle, velvety notes, the fragrance molecule has an almost magical effect on our surroundings. This resulted in Molecule 01 (2006) to 4, Escentric 1 to 4, Molecule 01 + Iris and Molecule 01 + Mandarin (2021 etc.). Each Molecule has its Escentric counterpart. They are supposed to share the same aromatic-chemical base and also add a complementary note to the base. I don't recognize this concept when I smell the fragrances, but I still think Escentric 3 is a success.
Molecule bottle (there really are much prettier ones) in Sap Green outer packaging. Vetiveryl acetate is the only note that exudes its long-lasting, balsamic and woody notes, with a slight freshness.
Vetiveryl acetate is a hybrid molecule, half natural, half synthetic. Vetiver oil distilled from the roots of an Indian grass and then "crossed" with acetic acid to remove the bitter and leathery aspects of the root.
Molecule DNA is unmistakable, I smell chypre which I like very much. Reminded me of Perles de Lalique.
Vetiveryl acetate plays the molecule here, but different from ISO Super or Ambroxan. The fragrance starts juicy, citrusy, then comes earthy vetiver and finally comes wood and musk, unisex like all Molecule fragrances. This is truly not the best chypre out there, but an interesting mono composition. Clean, fresh, timeless. Sillage is weak and longevity is average and slightly better on clothes. Green, rich forest with synthetic undertone, the scent comes and goes - typical for Molecule - in waves. Perfect for warm weather. If you like vetiver and lime, you might like this fragrance.
Lime - vetiver - wood - tea. Refreshing. But so is my shower gel for much less money. Molecule 3 is very perfume-like, so not at all "not a parfume", reduced or puristic as you know Molecule. There is a hint of pencil here too.
The fragrance pyramid is not so mystical here, but recognizable and perceptible. For me, this is not a leather fragrance, but a vetiver fragrance.
In the drydown, herbaceous-smoky notes could appear leathery, pure leather fragrances are the new Animalique by Byredo, Tom Ford Ombre Leather or Tuscan Leather, Bottega Veneta pour Homme Extrême, Leather Oud
Dior etc. Guerlain and Roja have great vetiver fragrances.
I don't recognize anything of the floral heart notes. Sometimes herbaceous, sometimes earthy. Has something relaxing about it. Not a candidate for me to buy.
The note illustration at Profumo is not correct and does not match the manufacturer's information.

Fantastic ginger + lime opening. But that quickly disappears, replaced by a smoky base that's bland and doesn't work. Whiff!
