There is something very adult and refined about Ambre Supermassive by LEP. I'd had it on my buy list for over a year after trying it in London but not pulling the trigger as I was on a no-buy at that time. This is one of those fragrances that makes you smile. It did when I tested it and it does now.
Followers of my reviews may know that ambers are a favourite profile of mine, but I find many of them a bit sticky and cloying. Ambre Supermassive is one of my favourites because it is sweet but it also has a mineralic saltiness to it. The tobacco and rum and especially the honey can make profiles like this very hedonistic but extremely difficult to wear during the day or for the office, but Ambre Supermassive very successfully walks a careful line between indulgent richness and refined humility.
The pineapple and sesame in the top are just gorgeous and are another reason why this sits apart from the amber mainstream. It has a similar vibe to the wonderful Delphinus by Creed which is another one that makes me smile to wear it. We have creamy vanilla, amber, musk, tobacco, pineapple, honey, rum, saffron... it is pretty much a greatest hits of perfume notes for me. Ambre Supermassive doesn't shout but it exudes a tremendous confidence I really enjoy.
If you think about it, it is quite a thing to be as good an office wearer as any I have in my collection, but also to be one of the sexiest, most captivating personal scents I have ever come across. The two shouldn't be the same, but somehow they are. Conceptually you are not (I assume?) going for the same effect, are you? This is not a suit, piecharts, Excel formulae and ExCo buzzwords fragrance, and yet somehow it is. Do you want people curling their toes up, rolling their eyes back into their heads, licking their lips and idly thinking about all of the extremely NSFW things they want to do with/to you, when you are presenting the monthly exposure review and sharing some important market trend analysis to senior management around the boardroom table?
Maybe you do. I don't. But maybe you do. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
Three Word Summary - The Ultimate Amber
Layering suggestion - try Sel D'Issey EDP by Issey Miyake over the top to bring the saffron, saltiness and minerality up a few notches. You can lighten it up with something like Casanova by Tiziana Terenzi as well. It is incredibly versatile.
