Sweet, purple lolipop powder

Now if this isn't the collected smells of a 13 year-old girl's bedroom, then I don't know what is! Sweet, powdery violet pastilles borne aloft on clouds of cheap musk, cherry-almond lotion, chewing gum, candy cigarettes, hairspray, and a hint of something bitter and murky (half-chewed licorice laces, ivy).

It is light and heavy at the same time, which is what gives it its strange, girlish charm - the musks give it a lifted, spacey feel, while the violet and licorice candy stuffs it up, giving it a thickened, gummied feel. It feels a bit cheaply made, like Wish Chopard, which is no bad thing at all, because it is buoyantly cheerful and feminine and delightfully syrupy in that accessible manner of fruitchoulis and designer gourmands. The contrasting sweetness and bitterness gives it an edge you might even call witchy. I like it a lot. Black Perfecto is the grown up version of this, which is why I don't feel compelled to go beyond a sample. But it is great to try a legendary mainstream perfume and find out it is as fun as everyone says it is.
