leather - a new worthwhile perfume
At first smell, it is very reminiscent of Tuscan Leather.

But a few moments later it's own identify emerges in full bloom.

A soft leather sweetened with a dried fruit accord and spiced with saffron.

In. Perfect. Proportion.

Because its dried fruit, it's not a fructose intense like fresh fruits.

And because it's a dried fruit accord, it's not fruity smelling either.

It you've ever had fresh dried fruits then you're aware of now it's fruity and sweet but not intensely fruity and richly sweet like fresh fruit.

A lot of you at this point are probably wondering if it's similar to the Serge Lutens dried fruit accord.

No it's different. Serge's accord is more of a compote. Stewed dried fruits where the fructose is escalated. Over here the fructose is muted.

The saffron accord smells solid. Like a concentrate of saffron.

There's a milk tea we prepare over here that is emphasized with saffron.

Some people add strands of saffron to the boiling tea or while it steeps.

I like to drop a few strands into a 20ml cup of boiling water then let it infuse for a few minutes. You end up with very concentrated saffron water. But because you add it to liters of tea it's not bitter.

The saffron in Noble Leather is like this. Robust and concentrated but perfectly balanced with the dried fruit accord.

Highly recommended if Tuscan Leather , Clive Christian C & Cuir Ottoman appeal to you.At first smell, it is very reminiscent of Tuscan Leather.

Fruity Leather No. xxx
Empty bottles, men, and barrels were everywhere. Although the men were rather the opposite of empty. It smelled terrible of leather, alcohol, stale smoke, and other reminiscences of a night spent partying. Wolle and his rockers were celebrating his successful roadshow regarding his candidacy for mayor of Herne. Last night, victory was expected. How did it come to this?

Flashback:
With the help of his lawyer Cravache and the bald millionaire Bastian, Wolle founded his own party, aiming for comprehensive alcohol supply. Wolle noticed that schools only offered drinks like milk and the like. Worse still: various restaurants didn’t sell beer. So he felt compelled to act and founded the BRU, the Beer Belly Rocker Union. With catchy slogans like “Beer even before four,” “No power to drugs except beer,” and “Wolle, you flamenco dancer,” they laid the foundation for the Beer matter movement and thus also won the hearts of the people of Herne. They expected from Wolle a disruptive politics, a breakthrough into new times.

For this reason, the sitting mayor Salomon Sucher, known to everyone simply as Schatz or Schatzischmatzi, had to dig deep into his repertoire (hahaha, I’m so funny...) and found a fragrance with which he wanted to counter Wolle: YSL - Noble Leather. This fragrance opened with the often-smelled leather plus a fruity touch. Here, it was not raspberry but dried fruits, reminiscent of Charriol - Royal Leather. However, the saffron is subdued; unlike the reference work, it remains very sweet and minimally fruity. The leather remains dignified, rather creamy smelling than really smelling like leather. Perhaps it is appropriately a high-gloss leather for YSL.

With this scent, Sucher felt equipped. High-gloss, not too wild and fruity, he found that fitting yet still attention-seeking. So he wandered from event to event and delivered his speeches. But everywhere, his scent was compared to the Ombre Leathers and Tuscan Leathers of this world. So was his politics. Nothing stood out these days.
Thus, Salomon Sucher gradually became more of a sweet-talker in his quest for votes. Or was it the fragrance? It now offered more room for vanilla, becoming sweet.

Wolle, on the other hand, traveled from corner pub to corner pub, often falling drunkenly from the podium or being brought home in a beer cart or wheelbarrow, often pulled through the crowd. The people of Herne liked that; Wolle was one of them, Wolle stood for the local color of the Ruhr area.
When Schatz Sucher then also came up with the idea of the pubs, it was too late. His scent had faded or was just a sweet-creamy leftover potpourri, and there were no more listeners. Slowly, it dawned on Salomon. The triumvirate of Wolle, the devil-dancing lawyer, and Master Clean from the region would defeat him.

Present:
“Wolle!”
“W-w-what?”
“Wolle, look at the clock, we’re late for the election!”
Wolle looked at his watch with the yellow sponge on it.
“W-w-what’s the big deal..,” Wolle mumbled drunkenly.
“We were well in the lead, and even anti-alcoholics like our lawyer C. Ravache wanted to vote for us.”
“He’s lying on the bathroom tiles; must have had something else too much...”
“Most of our supporters will go to vote despite our premature revelry yesterday.”
“Your words in Ceres’ ear, Wolle.”

And so it happened as it had to: Wolle and his team lost the election by a landslide because almost everyone in Herne had gotten so drunk in anticipation of victory that simply no one went to vote. No one? Well, a trickster from Herne-Crange did, but otherwise only S. Sucher and his small base.

Noble Leather was already no innovation at the time of its release. Nevertheless, it offered a wearable leather fragrance for anyone who doesn’t like leather in the sense of Tuscan Leather but still wants to smell that way. Today, it is one of many, as over the years fragrances like Ombre Leather have emerged, which can easily be classified in the same category and are significantly more popular. Thus, Noble Leather has been caught up and now blends into the masses. Unfortunately, it is also not as good as the reference fragrance I mentioned from Charriol. Although saffron becomes more prominent after hours, much has happened by then. Noble Leather is therefore not bad but, in my eyes, just one of many.

Leather? Checked off!
When I started here a few years ago and embarked on the wild ride of fragrances, I first had to orient myself. For me, with my drugstore knowledge, there were three scent categories: very good, okay, and terrible. But since I couldn't really get anywhere with these criteria here, I had to do some research on what the "real men" wear. So come on, "leather." A grown man simply has to wear leather. And everyone has a good idea and association with leather. Leather is concrete and tangible. At least more concrete than styrax(?) or "sheltered shipwreck."

How long does it take to stumble upon "Tuscan Leather" in the search for a leather scent? Right! A few milliseconds. Its prevalence and all the reviews and comments cannot deceive. With this fragrance, the topic of "leather" is shot. In my early days, however, a bottle in that price range felt too risky, and I decided to secure 50 ml through a sharing. So Tom Ford's interpretation of leather was now in front of me. And what can I say? I was disappointed. There was clearly leather in it. But it was neither authentic leather nor a fragrance. It was something in between that neither impressed me ("Wow!!! It really smells exactly like leather!") nor did I like it. It was rough, technical, and lifeless.

Since then, I have been enlightened regarding leather, and after a few more samples, I also gave up on finding a fragrance that has a dominant leather note and is simultaneously pleasing.

In my database, I record all the samples I liked in green. During the last revision, I noticed that I never really followed up on "Collection Orientale - Noble Leather." And as fate would have it, a bottle was for sale in the souk a few days later. Snatch!

On one hand, I was curious today if I had once again thrown a hundred bucks down the drain. On the other hand, my expectations were zero. I had actually regretted the purchase right after paying and had already lost interest in the fragrance when the bottle stood before me. Good signs for a full-body all-day test, right?

Long story short. Here it is. Leather! No kitsch, no distortion, no aberration, no attempt, no homeopathic dose, but also no reminiscence of the lifeless material or the monotonous substance leather.

To my nose, it is once again my now beloved friend saffron that primarily brings the coals out of the fire here. Although dried fruits are also listed, saffron provides the sour-fruity-herbaceous undertone. The wood presumably adds a drying effect, so the story doesn't become too bubbly, exuberant, and thus unbelievable. I smell patchouli and vanilla only because I've read it beforehand. However, in my opinion, they only play second fiddle and slightly dull the saffron's peaks.

The sprayer works moderately well. I find the bottle kitschy with its golden color coating, on which the angular plastic cap, turned 45°, sits. It doesn't feel pleasant to the touch. An ergonomic disaster. However, I am compensated with remarkably well-adjusted longevity and sillage. Everything between three and six sprays leads to a pretty much the same very good result. It is consistently strong and does not overpower. Rarely have I left the house with such a confident feeling. It lasts until this evening and yet does not unintentionally disturb the surroundings. Very well done.

How glad I am. There is still a second, quite similar candidate, but for now, the topic is finally checked off.

Leather and Burnt Wood
Noble Leather truly smells exactly as described above: leather, amberwood, patchouli, and the dried fruits are very clear and transparently identifiable. What makes the fragrance interesting for me is the impression of something burnt, charred - smoky-resinous, like burnt, cooled firewood. I have no idea how this impression arises (there's certainly no wood ash in the Dyptique candle "Feu de Bois"); it elevates the scent for me out of the now more commonly trodden path of oriental men's fragrances.

A gutsy leather and tobacco ride accompanied by rich dried fruits, spices and a hint of boozy vanilla. So decadent.

Oh boy! While still much in debt to TL, this one shines with its softer texture and seals the deal with just the right amount of amber.
