I haven't smelled BR540 in about a year. Back then, I was tempted to make a
purchase and wore it at most twice within a year.
Now I still see it in every "Top 10 Niche Perfumes for Life" list... so I thought to myself, go ahead! Order a sample and test it again... my perfume preferences have steadily changed over the years... and I regularly find myself on new trips: jasmine blossom, woods, coffee, tea, tuberose, well you know the symptoms of a perfume addict :)
No... nothing has changed, I still don't like it and can't wear it! It smells like burnt cotton candy on my skin. Do you know the liquid Mercuchrom-iodine solution in a small bottle, a wound and skin antiseptic from the pharmacy? ...that's what it reminds me of. Even the smell of a dentist's office, which is often compared, I would describe as more pleasant.
I asked family and friends what they think of the scent? No enthusiasm whatsoever! Apparently, all perfume novices :)!
For me, not much changes over time! Yes, the longevity and sillage are a beast. But that doesn't make it any more magical! This uniqueness seems to remain hidden from me...
During the first test, I thought, "Eww, what is this?!" (I didn't know anything about the hype back then). I tested it again two weeks ago - the card still smells - and yes, there's something fascinating about it, even though it also repulses me.

This is the only scent: when I catch a whiff of it on the train, I have to get off at the next station, otherwise I’ll immediately get a severe migraine attack with intense nausea. This fragrance can be detected across several carriages, especially when it’s warm. What some people love makes others feel sick.
I perceive the scent very similarly. I really like many different fragrance directions, but with BR 540, it's a mystery to me what people find in this scent. I'm at a loss.
I also find it fascinating how differently perfumes are perceived... it's just my personal feeling, but I still respect the creations even if they're not for me!
I remember Mercuchrom well from my time as a medic in the Bundeswehr. And YES, that smell combined with slightly burnt cotton candy matches my impression of BR540 very closely, which neither I nor anyone I've let smell it liked.
