A Baroque Rose Garden
There is also a Jardin du Nil from Hermès. But while it is simply an unbearably sweet little fruit there, the Nilgarten from MPG features all sorts of interesting plants.
Above all, it is the floral accord of rose, geranium, and jasmine that sets the tone here - a rather bold accord for a men's fragrance. One is largely spared from citrus notes, with only a very restrained acidity being employed.
The strong flowers are balanced by a dark, herbal base. In addition to amber and patchouli, a rather robust, dark variant of vetiver is used. Together, this creates a bold contrast of different notes that can certainly be considered successful.
But the fragrance has a decisive flaw - I do not like it. Surely the perfumer did everything right. I like rose, I like vetiver, but the combination of both, along with jasmine, results in an accord that I do not enjoy. Although I can't even properly explain why not, it simply is that way. Somehow, it feels once again far too baroque, like the presentation of MPG fragrances in the red bottle. So let’s leave it at that.
