Jupiter instead of Ganymede
Most of us now know Ganymede Eau de Parfum and many love it. A very unique fragrance, the epitome of niche. The freshness of mandarin and the depth of agikalawood make it appealing, while the saffron lends a technical, sterile note that makes this fragrance so special.
So what could be more obvious than to create a flanker for this box office hit?
This brings us to Ganymede Extrait. At 275 € OVP for 50 ml, this is a fragrance that will make even fragrance lovers with deep pockets squeeze out a tear. What do you get for it? And why should you pay almost 3 times the price of Ganymede?
The first time you spray it on, you realize how incredibly powerful this fragrance is. You are catapulted straight into a cathedale. Frankincense and myrrh give it an aura that is second to none. In your mind's eye, a priest in full vestments passes by with a censer and opens the ritual. The technical freshness of Ganymede Eau de Parfum can only be guessed at this point. Instead of a technology laboratory on the moon of Jupiter, you get Notre-Dame in the 17th century.
But this impression fades within the first half hour. The frankincense and myrrh recede, saffron and agikalawood come to the fore and with them the typical Ganymede DNA. In contrast to Ganymede Eau de Parfum, however, it is not as fresh, but rather wicked and noble. The synthetics of the eau de parfum are somewhat softened by this - even if they make up a significant part of the original's appeal for me. From this stage onwards, the fragrance remains relatively linear. The way the fragrance smells, I imagine a cathedral of the Ecclesiarchy on Terra or Mars in the year 40,000.
In addition to this slightly different base, however, the durability and sillage in particular have changed. While these were still strong and perceptible everywhere in Ganymede Eau de Parfum, Ganymede Extrait surpasses them. If you entered a room with Ganymede Eau de Parfum, the fragrance was immediately present and remained so for several hours. However, this fragrance was not created for earthly occasions - whether on Earth or the Earth-like moons of Jupiter. No. Ganymede Extrait can withstand even the whirlwinds of Jupiter itself. Even the most crowded techno club is immediately taken over by the scent. And even after a night at Berghain, all you'll smell the next morning is Ganymede. The longevity is absolutely insane. I sprayed two half sprays in the morning to test it out. After a stressful day at work, an hour of running followed by a shower, I could still smell it intensely the next morning. I have never experienced such an H&S with any fragrance before.
Would I buy this fragrance? No. I like the synthetics of Ganymede and the light freshness. That makes it wearable. H&S are completely over the top for almost all earthly occasions anyway. I was very pleased with the sample and will use it in said techno clubs until it runs out. The extra cost may be justified in terms of performance and the fragrance oils required for it, but doesn't give me anything I missed about the original. Nevertheless, this is a unique fragrance that exudes an incomparable aura.
