The Color Purple ...

... truly expresses the noble, slightly melancholic character of this fragrance one hundred percent. (You can detect a hint of violet in the top notes, but in my opinion, it does not define the core character.) It belongs to the only winter collection that has ever been released as part of the otherwise lighter Marc Jacobs Splashes.

Characteristic is, on one hand, this enchanting floral quality. Heliotrope then transitions into a semi-oriental base note full of musk. This bittersweet type of fragrance somewhat reminds me of "Trésor" by Lancôme and perhaps even has distant echoes of "Après l'Ondée" by Guerlain. It is voluminous and powdery, yet not as extremely heavy and oriental-stuffy as "Amber" from the same collection; rather, it has a blend of Clean Chic and animalistic eroticism that recalls typical Joop fragrances.

I can only highly recommend it, provided you can still snag a bottle - especially given the moderate price! Although it is generally considered more feminine, I believe it can also be worn well by men - as long as it suits your personal style and is applied discreetly.
