My French Summer with Marcel

Today I want to tell you about my first Eau de Cologne for the summer. My summer hero. The scent I wear when the asphalt shimmers on the way to the swimming lake, or when my neighbors already know that I have left the house because I leave behind this irresistible scent trail on my way to the office.

It is Marcel and it celebrates summer with me. Very stylish, not at all quiet, and surprisingly long-lasting. And it cools me down as well.

It starts with a fresh, slightly zesty citrus opening. Blood orange, bergamot, and rosemary. Slightly bitter, citrusy green. And I really like that right now. Masculine, manly, and elegant, yet somewhat old-fashioned. Lavender joins in along with a fine and subtle sage leather note. This makes it incredibly attractive and charming for me. Marcel gives me posture and presence and stylishly pushes me into the day.

In the base, there is vetiver, warm cedarwood with a hint of tonka.
It lays softly and almost creamy on the skin while still remaining a bit green in the background. I like this twist and it flatters my nose longer than I would have thought. Small waves keep rising to my nose. Subtle luxury! It’s not a uniqueness that I perceive here, but rather the perfectly tuned interplay of all the involved notes. That’s what makes Marcel really good.

I wasn’t familiar with the label Marie Jeanne before. It was founded by Georges Maubert, a member of the Robertet dynasty based in Grasse, France. For those who, like me, might not have known: Robertet is globally recognized as one of the largest producers of natural fragrance materials.

Marie Jeanne as a label stands for craftsmanship, natural ingredients, and is directly at the source. The brand Marie Jeanne sees itself as a reference to classic French femininity and perfumery art. Retro and noble, and an imaginary ideal for timeless elegance.

And Marcel? Marcel bridges the gap with its name between classic French, charmingly old-fashioned, yet modernly interpreted cologne. Additionally, the fragrances of Marie Jeanne are dedicated to the family names of Georges Maubert.

And for women, there is a matching counterpart: Marcelle.
