Perfume love knows no borders
A month ago, a very lovely lady, whom I got to know thanks to our shared passion for Laurent Smal fragrances, wrote to me: "Hey, I found an ad in Switzerland that might interest you." I opened the photo and thought, wow, yes, to be interested would be an understatement.
In the picture, a set of 3 wonderfully preserved "L'Elu" by Marquay, sold by a private individual. "Should I go for it?", yes, please please, buy it, I will take as many as you can give me.
Delivery successful, everything arrived in perfect condition, but how do you get the treasure from Switzerland into the EU? The Swiss Post does not allow shipments of perfumes, so we have to get creative. She takes my treasure with her to Holland to ship it from there, and here it is now, including the softest velvet pouch, perfectly preserved box, and intact Baudruchage.
At this point, I was already smitten as I unpacked everything, scalpel for removing the Baudruchage, briefly heating and cooling the glass stopper to overcome the typical "super glue" effect that vintage fragrances often have, and voila, it opens easily.
Since these flacons were produced starting in 1946 and the previous storage was unknown, I didn't expect too much at first, but you wouldn't believe it, this scent is perfectly preserved, still very strong and long-lasting.
Upon the first application, I was initially a bit overwhelmed by the opulence of the many floral notes, but after a few minutes on the skin, the great love follows at second glance.
The base is beautifully dark, sensual, and elegant. You find a lot of iris, soft moss, subtly ambery earthy notes, refined animalic elements that don't overwhelm, dark flowers, simply a wonderfully beautiful, complex vintage chypre.
I highly recommend checking out the information about the scent "Cleopatra's Boudoir," according to her, the following notes are included in the composition:
• Top notes: aldehydes, petitgrain, lemon zest, bergamot, narcissus and galbanum
• Middle notes: orris, tuberose, clary sage, orange blossom, Bulgarian rose, ylang ylang and Grasse jasmine
• Base notes: cistus, vetiver, castoreum, opoponax, vanilla, musk, amber, oakmoss, sandalwood, patchouli, labdanum, Virginia muscat cedar
A thousand thanks to my acquaintance from Switzerland for getting me this treasure! Thank you thank you thank you, I will include a link to YouTube where you can see more of the wonderful presentation and removal of the Baudruchage.
