Violet Scent - a Promise?
I have had a bottle of Melvita "Les Solyflores - Violette" for quite some time now. Despite all the wonderful fragrance revelations here on Parfumo, I have been on the hunt for authentic Solyflores since my teenage years. And although I have lost some along the way over the decades, I have not forgotten any of them. I search for them from time to time, own a few again, and also discover new ones to try out.
Who has disappointed me immensely with their scents labeled and declared as Solyflores is - I don't like to say this: Yves Rocher.
They may be beautiful scents for many. I can't relate to them at all.
So I fished "Violette" and "Chevrefeuille/Geißblatt" from "the bay" shortly before my time on Parfumo and I am still thrilled with them.
But as for Violette, it cannot be purchased in Germany or through the homepage. You can't even find "Les Solyflores - Violette" on the homepage. You have to search for it. There is a company in France that distributes it. The price for 100ml is very low.
As described on the homepage, the scents from Melvita are said to be made from natural ingredients. Certain additives, fixatives are not supposed to be included. It is also said that only organic alcohol has been used - if I understood that correctly.
However, if one thinks that "Les Solyflores - Violette" is a bland perfume, one is initially greeted by a rather strong and harsh, woody-strict scent note.
From this, a distinct violet scent develops from the extract and possibly the flowers of the violets. For after the complete disappearance of the top note, I also perceive a faint jasmine-like white floral scent. And as it is with violet root extract or absolute; it always has a hint of sweet licorice.
"Les Solyflores - Violette" is not infused with citrus accents, nor can I perceive any musk or resins. Apart from that somewhat strict and slightly mossy-resinous note at the beginning, "Les Solyflores - Violette" is a very intense violet scent. And nothing else! The sillage is not insignificant. However, as it should be with a natural scent, the longevity is moderate to at best good, it depends on my daily condition. And in the dry down, "Les Solyflores - Violette" becomes more lovely, finer, and it lingers in the air for a long time.
"Les Solyflores - Violette" is not a quiet scent. Every now and then, however, I "must" have a few sprays of "Les Solyflores - Violette" on me and around me.
"Les Solyflores - Violette" is a feminine scent. When I perceive it, I imagine that in the past, in the 18th and 19th centuries, when people wrote many letters, the ladies scented their letters and also their linens in this way.
The today seemingly trivial and sentimental mention, when the recipient pressed the violet-scented letter to their nose and chest with delight and longing, when a letter from the desired and beloved reached them, as it symbolized a sign of hope and a kind of fragrant promise, is made understandable to me through "Les Solyflores - Violette" in a scented way.
Maybe that's why I like "Les Solyflores - Violette" so much.
