Kneeling Down

One of the most beautiful aspects of our hobby lies in the fact that now and then, in an unforced manner and after unpredictable intervals, fragrance experiences come crashing down on us that shake all our habits and reveal something so new and so beautiful that it urges us to weep from being touched.

Such moments are often triggered by testing completely unknown, unheard brands and names as additions from swap packages: Sometimes, nothing seems better than to quickly spray that little sample down there from the box before heading to work, and then: BAM - there you stand, as if struck by lightning. I had such an experience 13 months ago with "California Snow" by "A Lab on Fire," and as the reviews of that fragrance show, I am not alone in my impression.

Thanks to the generosity of DufterMann, it is once again time. Mendittorosa - never heard of it, Archetipo - sounds quite interesting, but also pretty self-assured. Sprayed on: BANG! WHAT - IN - THE - WORLD - IS - THAT! That others share my impression in this case is shown by the previous comments, especially the one by Floyd, who has been too little acknowledged here so far.

A description of the fragrance is brief; I perceive a wonderful note of conifers, strong, spicy, fresh, which vaguely reminds me of my beloved, but long-used, first sample "Krizia Uomo" (the bottle I subsequently purchased was disappointing in comparison - possibly reformulated or even counterfeit); this is gradually grounded in the truest sense of the word by woody and telluric notes; but this is enchanted wood and the most delicious earth one can imagine.

However, this dry description says absolutely nothing, precisely because it is one of those fragrances that cannot be captured in words. It is pure nature as well as complete artificiality; it is physicality as well as soul and spirit; it is an image as well as a theory.

Of what one cannot say more, one should remain silent.

Your few well-chosen words wonderfully convey your enthusiasm. And the reference to the great, sadly vanished Krizia Uomo has me all ears... Moonstone trophy for you.

With the last paragraph, you say much more than one could probably say... I know that feeling and would love to experience it - adding to my wishlist, because woody and earthy notes sound too beautiful!

Oh, I just love this: putting a high level of craftsmanship into creating something completely natural; just adding that one nuance that gives you chills. Brilliant! Because what is mysticism? "Not how the world is, but that it is." Tractatus-Pokal!

I think everyone can relate to your enthusiasm. Sometimes a perfume just hits you like that. Everything important has been said for me... great!

It really should have been something for me (fir resin), but strangely, I was disappointed. Maybe I should just give it another chance.

Oh wow! Now I'm really curious. While reading the fragrance pyramid, I was already dismissing it internally. I'm happy for you about this scent experience. And exactly, fragrances that touch us like that are usually hard to analyze... or we simply don't want to.

Oh, you really got hit with that one! I only knew the Id, which is okay but didn't blow me away. I'm skeptical about this one, but I'll still add it to my wishlist.

Wonderful! I think I tried to express your speechlessness with the blank space, just like music that inevitably carries you away through the space it creates. I completely understand your enthusiasm! And thanks for the reference ;-)

Thank you so much for your review. I’d love to cry tears of joy :-)
But in April, I get to test all the Mendittorosas.
Just the bottles as art installations are a feast for the eyes.

You really got hit by that one! It's wonderful when fragrances are so captivating. It probably wouldn't be quite right for me, but that doesn't matter. I'm curious to see if the scent will soon be among your "Have-Its" :-)

For me, this is one of those scents that I would love to have as a room fragrance, but not so much as a perfume.
