Captivating chypre, today it's dusty dry, almost powdery, the sweetness hardly matters. More patchouli than white flowers.

Interesting. Primarily out of curiosity, I would really like to test it, although I don't think I would completely like it.

Testing is always a good idea! Make sure you're in the right situation/mood (see comments below).
I find it really fascinating how he manages to turn something as well-known and established as Chypre on its head; even when the notes are "wrong," you immediately know what he means.

I really don't find that here, despite a bit of jasmine and lily of the valley. But even civet and cumin are hardly noticeable.

Chypre and caramel is also an interesting combination.

I would want to respond with a very determined "maybe." Most fragrances have a certain effect for me, a mood they convey. If that matches the current situation, it feels right; if not, then it doesn't. The scent remains the same, no matter how inappropriate it is. With Matos here, I have a completely different scent experience, so the fragrance just doesn't work at all. It's almost as if the sun were an essential ingredient of the composition, and when it's missing, the whole fragrance just isn't there.

Great description and very helpful, also your addition below! "Not a bit of sweet stickiness" is definitely interesting, and I also think that Matos' fragrances sometimes need energy and attention - but often I can just enjoy them too.

I don't think it's that bad if you can't wear these scents all the time, even more so "not all the time" than with others.

With every Matos test, I notice how much the situation influences the experience. Just like with Nude Beach: in the hot sun, it brings back pure memories of the pool, a real spectacle, but a few days later in the early autumn chill, it feels rather strange and out of place. Today is similar: in the midday sun, with light and warmth, it's the most beautiful chypre (top notes of mango, then some lighter flowers in the middle, and grounding notes of patchouli, oak moss, and caramel at the base). It's dry (not a bit sweet and sticky), flattering, unusual, yet familiar (I even thought of an older baby powder in between), and over time, I would even throw in the term "elegant." - Now, this evening (dark, I'm tired, my nose is tired, food smells linger in the apartment, the day is done), when I spray again, I smell little of the elegance from this afternoon. More like caramel and "something."
Maybe that's a reason why Matos is perceived so differently; it seems to depend a lot on where and how you are at the moment.

Absolutely. These are scents that subtly challenge you and grab your attention... if you're tired or exhausted, they can quickly feel a bit "too much" 馃槄
