Twists and Turns
If I hadn't encountered this fragrance as a sample in a minimalist glass spray, we probably would have never met. Because although I find the bottle beautiful, it shouts: Not for you, Sugarspun! I proudly stand on a pedestal, the cut glass sparkles in the sun, the logo prominently displayed on the cap; this is for the refined ladies!
Twist #1: This is not the heavy scent of luxury and diamond brooches. Here, the refined lady takes off her pumps to step barefoot into the cool stream, so refreshing is the opening. Although synthetic, it is citrusy, green, and clear with a hint of dark melancholy, not very sweet. The apple blossom shampoo associations are met with the rather austere, straightforward bergamot leaf. The fresh euphoria of the flowers is grounded by the woody notes that take over afterwards.
Twist #2: Enter cedarwood. Has a well-scented gentleman sneaked in here? No, that's me! And what about this delicately pink-tinted liquid? I'm starting to feel dizzy. A straightforward, even serious woodiness unfolds, still hand in hand with a light citrus note, becoming softer and deeper. A focused scent, a cool breeze on the first warm days of the year.
With its unexpected facets, the fragrance is also versatile: It suits the little black dress as well as jeans, for the office, a trip to the countryside, in a chic restaurant, and at a punk concert. Gender, age? Irrelevant! A good example of what marketing does to us.
Twist #3: After a long day, I lie in bed, suddenly a delicate cream scent on my wrist. Still a twist? Yes! Barely noticeable, but beautifully subtle and flattering, once again completely unexpected. Because if I have one complaint about this fragrance, it is its lack of subtlety; despite its style breaks, it comes across as quite loud and linear, lacking that final refinement. At this point, a warning regarding dosage: The spray head of my 50ml bottle is exceptionally potent, one spray is enough!
All in all, a good match, the twist and I. We will spend a lovely spring together, in the height of summer it might become too heavy, but it could fit again with the autumn leaves. I look forward to what’s to come. Further plot twists not excluded!
