Do you know that feeling when you test a new fragrance and within just a few minutes, it creates the impression that you could put all your other scents away? That’s how I felt with this coffee frappé from Montale. At least on the first evening - good thing some things get put into perspective :-).
The delicious coffee note hits me immediately, quite expansive. The floral notes come along, delicate and rather subtle to my nose. I recognize rose. The typical Montale note is very present again, which I had also strongly perceived in Roses Musk. I didn’t like it after a short time with Roses Musk, which is why that bottle unfortunately had to go. According to the ingredient list, this is likely created by musk and amber, but my nose also suspects a good hint of oud. Here, with the coffee, it fits well, but it shouldn’t be stronger. Everything is a bit sweet and deliciously creamy, not too much, but just enough to make your mouth water.
I can’t detect a progression here, but that’s absolutely fine with me - with some fragrances, I find the absence of the top note directly disappointing. Here, everything stays as it is, just becomes a bit softer. Longevity seems good so far, as is fitting for a Montale.
I felt the same way as you did; I was blown away by the first sniff and wanted it right away. The reality check hit me too, and compared to New Haarlem, it's not as strong.
I think it will smell on me like it does on you, but you don't like that Montale note as much, and I do :-). As I said, it shouldn't be any stronger for me either. *comforting*
