My purchase today, I never expected it, because normally I find the Montales too heavy, often too musty, and a while ago I had a Montale rose scent under the olfactory bulb that I found terribly musty and outdated. Consequently, I was cautious, first sprayed on the strip, waited, wanted to continue shopping... Hmm, that's nice... so back into the store, onto the skin with the scent. On my skin, the fragrance usually doesn't differ much from the test strips, and here it is the same - thank goodness.
For me, Roses Musk is a delicious, fruity rose, very elegant and completely free of mustiness, grandma-ness, or auntiness. However, there is nothing citrusy to sniff here, yet it is (for me) clear, transparent, fluffy. It is not cloying for me at all. It gets its grounding from musk and amber, which adds a very light animalic note. I couldn't handle much more of that, as I'm not really into the naughty musk creatures - but in this dosage, it gives the rose an interesting depth. The amber doesn't harmonize completely with the rose, at least for me this combo is somewhat unusual, but also very appealing. What's helpful here is that nothing is thrown at you. Nothing crashes or shouts at you, everything feels subtle.
As for the sillage, I can't say much as a wearer, but I feel enveloped. My sleeve still smells from testing (after all, it's been 6 hours now) almost as beautifully as at the beginning, there's nothing to criticize here.
