Unsafe plasticky scent - the essence of niche
Recently, I found myself in a niche perfumery in central London, a hidden gem stocking what must be well over 200 fragrances. Naturally, I decided to put my nose to work and sniff my way through about 30 of them... before my olfactory senses threw in the towel.
Amidst the olfactory overload, one fragrance refused to fade into the background - Fantomas. I can still recall it vividly.
The scent itself? Pretty much spot on with what others have described: imagine melon, a dash of plastic (but the fancy kind), and perhaps a smooth, milky note lurking in the background.
As for performance, this one has stamina - 6 to 8 hours of steady projection, and it even staged a cameo the next day.
Now, Fantomas may not be for everyone - it’s definitely not a "safe" choice... one of those where sampling is pretty much obligatory. But isn’t that what niche perfumes are all about?
Standing out, daring to be different, and not smelling like every other person in the room.
