Sweet-smoky Unisex Hidden Gem
Packaging and Bottle:
Dark and light-protected, the Aphrodisiaque comes in a black artificial leather pouch. Dark and light-protected is also the simple and elegant bottle.
The medium-weight cap made of light metal closes with a loud click, making the closure quite secure.
The Scent:
Incredibly difficult to describe whether it is a masculine or rather feminine scent.
Therefore: It is unisex! Unisex with both masculine and feminine moments.
Let’s give the ladies and the feminine part the lead.
Especially since it starts off very powdery and sweet with amber and tonka.
For a moment, it reminds me of Grand Soir, and this impression it conveys doesn’t really fade away over time.
Over time, relatively early I would say, a smoky vanilla comes through more and more, making the scent calmer and perhaps a bit more masculine. From then on, it also somewhat resembles Spirito Fiorentino, although here without the medicinal note, which is, in my opinion, more pronounced in the SF than in BR540.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the other notes from the fragrance pyramid; therefore, I cannot comment on them.
I can also imagine that this scent develops differently on a female wearer than on a male wearer. This is fascinating to me and considered an almost unique selling point. There are indeed similar scents that are like this. For example, Floral, Amber, Sensual Musk..
In my opinion, the Aphrodisiaque does not come close to those. Rather, it is closer to Grand Soir.
And somewhere in its entire transformability, although it does not completely develop into something else like with some Roja’s, it has a hint of spritziness, which also makes it a very wearable scent in spring. Right at the point where the sweetness threatens to drift into heaviness, it is caught by the aforementioned spritziness. Not enough for summer, but definitely suitable for the increasingly warmer days at the end of March.
Longevity and sillage are on par with the scent itself. Perhaps half a notch below, which I find better. Because conversely, if longevity and sillage are stronger than the scent itself, it can quickly become a headache candidate.
But as it is, it is a rounded and compact affair. Just like the bottle itself. And therefore, I can recommend it without reservation.
