Fiery Diamonds
Flame of Gold is the name of a yellow diamond that once won as an exhibit at the International Diamond Awards, although it seems a bit more difficult to find accurate information about it, as most search terms lead to this fragrance here. Or I was just too lazy to research for more than five minutes... well, it's Saturday after all, and one tends to be lazier than usual :D
What is known about the diamond, however, is that a wealthy oil tycoon bought it for his wife, who was the actress Greer Garson, who also won an Oscar in 1942... all of this seems to have been well before my time, as I must admit that I had never heard of Greer Garson until today...
Be that as it may, this fragrance is named after that diamond, which means one could actually expect a women's fragrance or a feminine-scented fragrance, since diamonds are famously a girl's best friend or something like that, but we shall see...
**The Scent:**
The scent starts intensely woody with resinous and sweet notes. Yes, I can confirm sandalwood and guaiac wood here; these woods smell really great in combination with the mentioned resinous and sweet notes, but the scent surprisingly smells masculine, at least the beginning does so far.
Over time, the woody notes become even more intense, but also more austere, which means that the softer wood notes like sandalwood recede into the background while the harsher ones like cedar come to the forefront.
In the background, there is a bit of patchouli, but somehow it strikes me as slightly camphoraceous, as I detect a light, medicinal note that later becomes more resinous and then reminds me more of pine rather than medicine. Earthy, the scent is still somewhat so.
Hmm... maybe this is a bit psychological due to the term Flame, but somehow there seems to be a slight burning note, something fiery, not in the sense that the whole woody notes create the impression of a burning forest, but rather in a nice, warm way.
With the sweet notes, one might not immediately realize where this sweetness comes from, but in the base, the musk becomes quite recognizable, as it intensifies and gives the sweetness a slightly darker tone. In the later base, the combined scent of musk and woods also somewhat resembles tonka bean.
A really good scent that, in my opinion, remains quite masculine.
**The Sillage and Longevity:**
The projection of the scent is quite good, so one should be noticeable from a distance, as it leaves a significant scent trail behind :D However, after about six hours, it becomes noticeably milder.
The longevity is therefore also quite good and lasts more than twelve hours, probably even much longer.
**The Bottle:**
The bottle is black and quite angular and edgy, like a gemstone. On the front, there is a golden label or plaque with the name of the fragrance on it. Appropriately, a diamond shape has been incorporated into the glass, also on the front, but not because the fragrance bears the name of a diamond, but because it is the company logo and is therefore also seen on the other bottles of this brand. Overall, a beautiful and high-quality bottle.
Yes, as described in the scent description, the fragrance has turned out to be quite masculine for me (ha, a fragrance named after a diamond is thus more for us guys than for you ladies, mu ha ha ha :DD). I find it absolutely wonderful, as it has such great resinous wood notes with an intense but not overpowering sweetness.
Due to its strong projection and the rather wintery scent notes, the fragrance is naturally only suitable for autumn and winter, which one might want to dose lower during the day (for example, at work), but otherwise, it is an excellent fragrance for the evening, for instance, when going out.
It is definitely worth a look or a sniff, especially the gentlemen here should have tested it!
