That's not so easy
when you like fragrances that have a decent longevity and also boast a striking sillage.... then sooner or later you come across Orto Parisi, the man from Nasomatto with the crazy nose.
Then you also stumble directly upon "Megamare," which also carries the nickname "Beast."
This for an aquatic fragrance.
When I sought out this scent to test in a department store in Düsseldorf, my excitement was high. Because none of what was described about the fragrance could I grasp or imagine in any way how it actually smells.
Even just smelling the bottle from above, a very fresh, marine-like cloud greeted me. After the first spray, I perceived something very strong and aquatic.
The scent is not easy to describe and it is mega strong in the opening. It doesn’t let anything else take over. Like a pit bull defending its territory, saying "here I am" and no one else. You have to give the fragrance some time, then the strong rusty sea scent transforms into something I would already call spicy. This fragrance envelops you for at least the whole day. And I enjoyed perceiving it distinctly with a breeze again and again.
It is a scent that is very hard to interpret and it is one of those beasts that you have to try. Some like it, others do not. I see the fragrance as more unisex than for men. It is provocative, strong, and room-filling. The day before yesterday, I was in a perfumery wanting to test some and had 3 sprays of Megamare on that day. Nothing of what I wanted to sniff there could I perceive or could I. Megamare is incredibly territorial and aggressive and doesn’t allow any competitor near its aura. I really like that about the fragrance. Not everything you like and find great has to be explained. With this one, it’s like with all Orto Parisi... test it and see if you like it. Maybe even on the second try. In the fresh category of fragrances, it is unbeatable in longevity, though somewhat specific. I can only give it full points because what it stands for, it achieves with top performance.
