The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Excuse me?
But what exactly are we getting here?
And for not even 15 bucks, if I remember correctly.

It’s mid-October. Salzburg. Foggy. Chilly. Autumn has settled deep in your bones. The wind whips through the city, but the mountains catch it.
Brunch time. Two friends. One arrives. Warm laughter. That alone warms up the day, and soon the sun comes out too, and we head to our favorite café, where we drink our much-loved iced coffee (no matter how cold it is outside) and tuck into our avocado toast with extra bacon. Life can be so wonderful. It gets even better with the right fragrance.

A real warmth came over my friend. I recognized the scent immediately. Well, the direction it was going in. Kilian's Angel. But in a sweeter, softer form. There are countless fragrances that are supposed to remind you of exactly that scent. But this one is so smooth, so soft, and so unobtrusive that you just want to hug it. When I asked what fragrance it was, the answer came bluntly and dryly: Otto Kern.

So that same day, I went to Rossmann, just over the border in Germany, and found it straight away. Otto Kern's Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. No excessive depth, no mysterious development, no high-end artistry, and certainly no overpriced price tag. It's just one thing: a pleasant, absolutely recommendable everyday fragrance for what it costs.

A lovely rum scent that clings smoothly to the wearer. Gentle spice that stays close to the skin. Along with a soft nutty note (noticeably nuttier than many others)
Lightly candied fruit, scattered across the dry autumn ground. Always accompanied by a delicate tonka bean note. A little vanilla milk, sweetened with slivers of almond. Delicious! But not overwhelming. It simply breathes along casually. Doesn't go especially deep. It's just there, chilling out on the wearer's skin.

For an Otto Kern fragrance, and at this price, it's a real insider tip for people who don't want to leave a few hundred euros on the counter. It lasts surprisingly long and is a faithful companion, even through the night. My coat has been smelling lovely for days, too. The bottle is nicely done as well. What more could you expect for the price? I'm completely convinced, and it deserves its points and every bit of respect! I can't say the same, though, about the two other new Otto Kern fragrances. But this one?

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing!
Absolutely!

Otto Kern is one of those brands for me-like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get 🤔.

I’m so happy for you. I didn’t like it quite as much as you did, but for that price, who cares? 🤗

Yes, even among the true under-the-radar niche brands, there are real gems among the bargain buys.

Oh, that sounds wonderful. I like Angels' Share, but it always felt a bit too overpowering to me. A softer, lighter version could be perfect.

Angels’ Share is really popular, after all. 😄
Let’s give it a sniff.
