Ehm... yeah... Rose and Oud, you know...
well, not quite. Slightly fruity notes brighten things up a bit and I also perceive a slightly salty note. That’s quite nice.
But this ever-present, cheap synthetic rose that these damn perfumers have to pair with every equally cheap, synthetic oud is slowly driving me crazy. I can’t stand this smell anymore. Probably that’s why I’m obsessed with REAL oud and genuine raw materials. With Nasomatto, the synthetic oud doesn’t bother me at all because that terrible rose isn’t poured in.
Roses are a noble raw material; you need a lot of them for a corresponding amount of essential oil. However, I’m not a fan of composing a fragrance that has thousands of “noble” ingredients in the fragrance pyramid, which then have nothing to do with what they’re supposed to smell like. I’d rather have simple raw materials or high-quality synthetics that don’t even try to smell like rose or oud - that never works anyway.
Well, I just had to complain a bit again :). Once this rose-oud cloud has finally dissipated, something truly beautiful remains. Then I perceive it as more summery and it reminds me much more of the sea than the other sea scents I’ve had under my nose. This salty seaweed note is quite dominant, without ever smelling disgusting or musty.
So you just have to get through a suboptimal top note, then everything becomes really nice.
