Okay, only film fans will fully understand the headline, so let me explain it this way: although Perris Monte Carlo has a few hits in its repertoire (Oud Imperial Extrait), for me, "Santal du Pacifique" is flat, quickly forgotten, and not particularly beautiful. And it hardly matters whether it's EdP or the more thoroughly tested Extrait. Perhaps this rather pure sandalwood combined with transparent flowers just isn't my thing, but especially when I compare it to other recently tested woody fragrances, it falls behind in an unremarkable way. One expects more depth, even more quality, and something memorable from an Extrait - just a gem - but this scent is forgotten faster than "Zoolander 2." So to return to the headline: SdP feels more like "Pixels," less like "Happy Gilmore." Unfortunately. I really wanted to like it.
"Santal du Pacifique" (Extrait) is more than fairly priced and certainly worth a look for hardcore sandalwood fans - though I probably shouldn't count myself among them from today onwards. The creamy-rough sandalwood is naturally at the forefront, but bright flowers like Ylang-Ylang or Tiare lighten the scent, giving it a Pacific touch. At least that's what they should do. It has a bit of a South Seas vibe, but it's not pacifistic - so don't get me wrong! Because especially at the beginning, the flowers and the bright wood clash, sting, and come across as quite intrusive, restless, and persistent. Moreover, the scent disappointingly comes off as diluted, especially for its resolution. There's also a lack of scent development, completely devoid of surprises or nice details. Just sandalwood and aquatic flowers that fade over time - that's too little for me. The sandalwood used is nice and of good quality, but unfortunately, there are fragrances of half the price that last twice as long, smell three times as good, and are four times as interesting.
Bottle: whether Extrait or EdP - all fine!
Sillage: (medium) strong, Extrait is not called that for nothing.
Longevity: here the Extrait doesn't fully showcase its concentration - 7 hours.
Conclusion: there needs to be more from an otherwise so valuable Extrait and this great brand, which has already impressed with so many fragrances. This light sandalwood fades into the gray mediocrity.
Yes, most are annoyingly flat - but "Punch-Drunk Love," "Happy Gilmore," "Click," and "The Love Inside Me" are positive exceptions and worth watching ;-)
I'm not quite sure if the "Sandler" is meant intentionally or unintentionally in the Austrian sense (homeless person)... However, the comment is, as usual, written in a way that gives an impression of what the nose can expect.
