Unexpected....
First of all, it is very important for me to say that with this review, I do not want to hurt, offend, or speak ill of anyone. Especially the lovers of this fragrance. It is wonderful when one has found a scent that they love so much, and I definitely do not want to diminish that!
The numerous reviews here on Parfumo have helped me so much that after much consideration, I want to write this review so that members can inform themselves and perhaps order a sample before making a blind purchase of this fragrance to test it out.
I know that there are many who love this scent. I truly thought that I would love this vanilla fragrance as well. I had heard and read so many good things and was sure that the scent would be something for me. I heard so often: "the most beautiful vanilla!!!" I was very confident that this would apply to me too.
Anyway, the day came when I, as a vanilla lover, absolutely wanted to test Vanille de Tahiti Eau de Parfum .. What can I say: I HAD TO!
I ordered a sample and sprayed it on my wrist with joyful anticipation. Then I detected a smell reminiscent of a cage in a zoo. A horse stable actually smells more pleasant, so I won't make that comparison. Unfortunately, I couldn't perceive any great vanilla anywhere, as the scent was so overpowering that I couldn't concentrate on anything else and didn't want to test it again. Just the thought that someone in my vicinity might feel the same way when I wear this perfume, that I smell like a puma cage, made it a definite no-go for me!
I have actually never experienced anything like this before. Not even close! However, this topic fascinates me a bit because I don't know if it's a story like with coriander or asparagus.. Is it that people simply perceive it differently, or is there some sort of phantosmia or something similar?
Does it only smell like this on my skin? Do others smell it this way on me, or is it just me who perceives it this way?
I then read through the reviews here and realized that I am not alone in this. Depending on the person, the perception seems to be completely different. I can hardly believe that anyone would intentionally want to smell like a puma cage.
In any case, I recommend getting a sample first and testing it before making a blind purchase..

I actually couldn't wait that long to see if the overpowering smell fades away! A scent like that is definitely a no-go for me. I don't want to smell bad in the first place. There are just too many great alternatives out there. ;-)
I'll definitely sniff your fragrance recommendations again. :-)
