Little Man at the Scale

I found Prada's Luna Rossa to be mediocre to okay upon its release. However, after several sniff tests with a friend who loves it, I have come to appreciate it much more. Still not a candidate for purchase & probably never will be, but it comes with an unconditional recommendation. Its Not-So-Sporty-Sport-Flanker, on the other hand, was a flop & won't get any more chances; it was just awful, Tonka mush. Most colleagues felt the same way. It is all the more surprising that another flanker of the flanker is being launched - but since I despise prejudices & try to set them aside, I extensively tested it on the back of my hand today. I really bathed my hand in the juice - because the bottle literally shoots tsunamis, making even Creeds blush with shame. Fantastic, if only it were like that more often. Eau Sport, however, must also, as it is one of the most introverted, whitest, neutral, & calmest scents I know.

Luna Rossa seems to be a bestseller for Prada, as evidenced by their advertising focus on the line & the continuous expansion of it. And the fragrances are good, but for me, they have relatively few similarities or, even more so, very little that sticks in the mind. The closest is a powdery soapy sweetness, which almost represents all of Prada & which an Amber PH has been carrying much longer & better. Eau Sport also has a soapiness, but only very subtly. Everything here is subtle. Those who thought Jil Sanders Ultrasense White was white & invisible will smell absolutely nothing here. Certainly better tested at 30 degrees & above, and perfect in midsummer - but to release such a transparent, completely unsweet soapy fragrance is bold. And great, and strange, and different from the other Luna Rossas. So still quite little consistency in the line, but a great new understatement king. Even with 15 (mega) sprays & at the gym, it was still relaxed, airy, pure, clean, & a blank slate that one can/must fill with their own character. The scent reminds me of freshly washed skin mixed with luxurious paper. Famously fleeting, fleetingly brilliant.

Bottle: very chic, very pure, very fine. The best sprayer I know. Fantawowtastic!
Longevity: 2-3 hours is unfortunately too little.
Sillage: that's why the term skin scent was invented. Not even that.

Conclusion: the better sport version by far & an outstanding new release, albeit with glaring performance issues. Nevertheless, a fine, human & sensitive clean scent that reminds me of Guerlain's Homme L'eau - and that is un grande complimento!

Between the extremes of prejudice and naive consumption, there are many nuances, usually with more substance than these two extremes :-)
