Picked up on the second sniff

Since my Osswald shopping, this exclusive Profumum Roma has been newly in my possession. For a long time, I had been virtually circling around it, as I am looking for a replacement for my dearly beloved Macadam by Il Profumo, which is unfortunately being discontinued. My wish was for a fragrance that comes very close to the vintage Casmir, which was my signature scent in my younger years. Could Meringa fulfill that? To find out, I went to Zurich to the Osswald perfumery and tested it.

The resemblance to Casmir and also Macadam is undeniable. I noticed that right from the first sniff, both on a cosmetic tissue and later on my wrist. But Meringa does something at first that you wouldn’t expect from a gourmand with a 90s vibe: It is fresh at the beginning. Citrusy-fresh with a lot of orange. I don’t find that wrong in itself, but I’m not looking for a fresh scent. Hmmmm?

This very freshness at the start delighted my husband, in contrast to me. "That makes it particularly unique," were his words. "With this scent, you stand out from the crowd; no one else smells like this. It has a high recognition value." Okay, high recognition value then. I had to let that sink in, and since the saleswomen at Osswald were so wonderfully patient, they allowed me to take a walk with Meringa so we could get to know each other better. And that’s what we did. I kept sniffing at my wrist. The orange and its freshness just wouldn’t go away. Yet it is supposed to smell like orange blossom and not the fruit! Jasmine and tonka joined in, and vanilla slowly made its presence felt. After about 30 minutes, I also detected a hint of vintage Casmir, which made the scent more interesting for me. When we were back at Osswald, I decided to take the little treasure home with me. After all, I had traveled to Zurich specifically for Meringa. Going home empty-handed and without achieving anything was simply not an option. And Seta, which had also captivated me, just wouldn’t please my husband.

Before we left, the lovely saleswoman sprayed me with Meringa three more times. I initially didn’t find the scent to be that intense and long-lasting, but that was about to change. The longer I had it on my skin, the softer, gentler, and more present it became. By late evening, I was hopelessly smitten with this scent. It reminded me more and more of my vintage Casmir from 20 years ago. Even the next morning when I woke up, I could still perceive that dreamy note on my skin. I didn’t want to stop sniffing my sweater from the day before. Yes, it’s a hit. And it has the potential to be a signature scent. I no longer find the initial freshness to be so silly, as it makes it wearable in any season. Casmir and Macadam can’t do that.

On New Year’s Eve, I will break open my new bottle. Yes, sometimes we hens should definitely listen to our men!

Hmmmm, I guess I have to try it then; I used to really like Casmir. I just found out online yesterday that Meringa was created specifically for the Swiss. Great review!

wonderfully written, I actually think of Casmir when I smell it too. And the somewhat more modern Wear Love Everywhere. They all have a similar vibe, which I really like.

What a great review!! Reading it makes me feel like Meriga is exactly what I'm looking for!!! And even though I promised myself no more blind buys... I'm definitely going to get this one soon!... I'm especially curious about the combo of Casmir and orange.
Thank you!!!

Ah, now I have an impression of Meringa. I had never heard of it before. Admittedly, I've also never been to that special perfumery in Zurich. I always just rush through Switzerland to get to Italy... 😜

Yes, sometimes men are just right, even if that may sound very unliberated... ;)

Hey, I just realized: I haven't looked into your signature scent at all! It could totally be my thing ;) Vanilla, orange, tonka - that's so me!
By the way, great interesting comment.

Now I can understand you. It's beautifully sweet, warm, soft, and gourmand in perfect balance. It has a casual elegance that only Italians can achieve. For me, it's a women's fragrance.
Meringa has a certain closeness to Cašmir, but it always leaves a slightly sticky, caramelized scent on my skin. So for me, it doesn't quite measure up to Meringa.
Thank you so much for the delightful fragrance sample.

I just came across your signature scent in your comment... it was nice - the trip to Zurich :) - casually and informatively written... and if it's not too sweet, it could be something for me too... (if it brings joy to men as well!) :))

I like a lot from Profumum Roma, but the sample of "Meringa" could have aged a bit longer. It's actually a nice scent, but it has a note that's a bit too high for me, it kind of squeaks.

Aha, so you've found your New Year's scent too. The PRs are great fragrances; I just don't get along well with the mostly oily consistency. But that's my personal issue. I've had one in my collection before.

I don't know either Casmir, let alone the vintage version, or Macadam. It's probably for the best; I don't need to be sad about it because of my preferences. But your description also fits Acqua e Zucchero. Orange blossom that smells more like fresh orange than the flower, adding the perfect touch to the vanilla scent.

Haha, ... good thing there's already a Mr. Pollito, so I don't have to listen to you. Because with V+O+J+T, it would never work out for us (Amber is just missing from my hell;-) But I still give you a Pokalo Sympathikus for your enthusiasm :)

Great description! The enthusiasm is contagious. Sometimes it's really good to listen to the guys too ;-) So far, I've unfortunately encountered the wrong Profumum Romas. And they didn't last at all :-/

I think you made a great choice - especially since it's sold so exclusively :-)
