Ganymedes

A Trojan youth was abducted by Zeus and taken to Olympus, where he was made the gods' cupbearer and became immortal. The most ancient form of the legend, the Iliad, says the most beautiful of mortals and tells that precisely for this reason, the gods kidnapped him and took him to heaven so that he could serve as cupbearer to Zeus always live with the Eternals. Gallant young man, stupid, handsome and refined, favourite, prostitute, and waiter, Ganymede is all.
The Ganymede, without explicitly erotic connotations, is above all the dude, the gallant young man, undoubtedly handsome and with refined manners, and frivolous; we could call it a doormat, a dandy. With my new shoes, I feel like a Ganymede; at dinner, we disfigure between prying Ganymede, who knows how to have more brilliant conversations than ours, and the friend in class, at the restaurant, and on the beach is always a Ganymede. He is a figure for which we have many names, and that of Ganymede gives an exceptionally playful and clean nuance: he plays on the height of a literary tone that only mythological terms have.

Potion is a great fragrance. Not over-potent, so it feels light and fresh. It bears a striking resemblance to Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme. Like D&G, Potion represents the masculine fragrance style rather typical of the 90s, before spicy aquatic and woody fragrances became genuinely androgynous. Some people may think it is a little dated, but it has a pleasant, masculine smell. I imagine myself sitting on a straw chair on a sunny afternoon, wearing cream-coloured light linen trousers, while my jacket is tucked away on a nearby chair; I am perfectly shaved, and my white linen shirt is unbuttoned. The only breeze I feel is the one on my chest hair. And this sweet tobacco aroma rises from my heated body. The fragrance is fresh, dynamic, elegant, and pleasant in its development. It comes to life from fresh and citrus notes to reveal an aromatic heart enriched by an accent of smoky and exotic woods and musks. I have a feeling of summer heat mixed with a distant reminder of tobacco from the not-so-sweet cigars from the nearby tavern, all combined with the scent of lavender floating in the air from the street vendors offering this herb in these cute little pouches.

Potion for men opens with slightly tart notes of a citrus blend. It is not specifically citric, and none of the fruit or peel is prominent, or perhaps the orange sits a step above the bergamot, lemon, and tangerine. From the bottom, I can catch the sweetness and smokiness of the tobacco leaves and aromatic blue lavender. Initially, it smells clean, a bit soapy, like you just came out of the shower.

In the heart, geranium deserves a prominent place in the parade of elements and helps to variegate the still articulated scent with its dark, intense, slightly spicy aroma. Terragon and lavender handle the general aromatic background and are contrasted by a dominant resinous note of vaguely toasted tobacco, marked by dry and creamy woods. Cardamom is subdued and slightly minty, but there is an undertone note of petrol, perhaps because of the alpha-iso methyl ionone used for creating the violet leaves vibe.

In the drydown, the tobacco moves to the foreground with a lot of lavender, which is lovely. The bottom is fresh, sober, quite virile, and classy. Tobacco is slightly sweet as a freshly opened pack of cigarettes. It is an apt representation! Truly a Mediterranean accord, a strong juice in the presence of light blond tobacco, and close to the original formula of D&G Pour Homme. Cedar is dry. I don't get too many pencil shavings nuances while creamy sandalwood shines.

It is a reasonably pleasant woody and aromatic fragrance based on a play of contrasts between woody tobacco on one side and aromatic and floral citrus fruits on the other side. A fantastic, nostalgic scent that goes well with the heat of a hot summer night while walking in an old part of the city somewhere in Italy or on some Greek island. Tobacco goes well with the fall season, but Potion can suit any season and any dressing style, and it is a good choice for daywear and a night out. Longevity is not that bad for me; however, on average, half a day at the most. It lasts much longer on clothes, though. Instead, sillage and projection are moderate, quite soft after an hour. Investing much money to wear a more than decent fragrance is unnecessary. Low price but exquisite quality fragrance, smells good on the skin, and I recommend it if you love D&G pour Homme.

I base the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since August 2018.
