You Smell So Good

You smell so good
You smell so good
I’m following you
You smell so good
I find you so good, so good
I’m on your trail
You smell so good
I’ll have you soon

Yes, I think of the song by Rammstein every time I wear this fragrance - because it’s just incredibly good. Really - if I could keep only 3 fragrances, this one would definitely be among them. And it’s also one of my cheapest fragrances - which I absolutely don’t understand given its performance.

I don’t even know how I came across this scent. I’m an absolute “bottle fool” - I usually buy perfumes when I’m either completely sure that I love the scent, or when I’m once again a victim of packaging and find the bottle beautiful. With Rosenrot, it’s definitely the former, because ouch! the thorns really sting.

But that makes the scent all the better. The rose comes through extremely when sprayed, but it’s not unpleasant - not “grandma-like”, too old, or already wilting, no, just incredibly floral, fresh, and - surprise! - rosy. Accompanied by the metallic notes, it all feels beautifully fresh, the incense doesn’t really come out on my skin (unfortunately), but that doesn’t take away from the fragrance. The base notes make the scent cozy and warm - it becomes a bit sweeter, more intimate, and “homier”.

But don’t get me wrong - the longevity is insane! Normally, I belong to the candidates for whom any perfume lasts a maximum of 4 hours, even if they’re supposed to last 16 hours on others. Not so with Rosenrot. I can still perceive it myself for the first few hours, even though I’m usually completely nose-blind - and I’m still approached about it in the evening, without reapplying. Even the next day, it’s still quite subtly there. Nevertheless, it’s never overwhelming or “too much” - I would describe the sillage as not discreet, not overloaded, but just right.

It reminds me of Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid, which is also in my collection. The fragrances are not dupes - I wouldn’t go so far as to call them that, but Rammstein definitely captures the “vibe” for me, it’s that sophisticated. The longevity is even better with Rosenrot, and I would almost claim that if I had already had Rosenrot in my collection, I wouldn’t have purchased Tom Ford at all. Thus, Rammstein has not released a run-of-the-mill scent, no - it could easily compete in the upper league of niche perfumes!

I’m glad to have discovered this treasure - in my opinion, a very well-invested 40€ and for rose and niche fans (+ of course also for Rammstein fans ;)) it’s definitely worth at least taking a sniff.

Hmm, for a niche fragrance, it's too straightforward for me. And it has what all Rammstein scents have in common: no development, total linearity. Smells the same at the beginning as it does at the end. Still: Drugstore king!
