Elegant and sporty
Having already owned two fragrances from the Raphael line by 4711 (No. 1 and 4) that impressed me greatly, I also grabbed No. 3 without hesitation when I spotted it in an advertisement.
The 50 ml bottle was still almost full and the packaging intact.
The scent is still completely intact, and I am quite surprised by the rather poor overall rating here, as it is undoubtedly a high-quality fragrance. Perhaps the tested fragrances were not entirely intact miniatures?
I suspect that the Raphael line from the 1980s was meant to bring some more affordable scents from the designer segment of that era to the market.
Raphael 3 by 4711 dates back to 1985, when (Euro-)oriental fragrances as well as aldehydic scents were very modern. The latter is also the case for No. 3.
When sprayed, the aldehydes immediately greet you, along with the cedarwood, which I always perceive very quickly, and the dry, soapy aldehydes lighten up with their almost citrusy sprightliness.
I can detect these two notes until the end. The beginning and the end meet here simultaneously. I also perceive bergamot and the green notes very well.
Afterward, various flowers appear, but they are quite difficult to identify. The scent never drifts too much into floral territory. The flowers remain subtle, and the aldehydes and cedar dominate.
The base is woody-ambery and warm. The aldehydes become weaker. Overall, a really good fragrance with a harmonious finish, good longevity, and sillage.
Unfortunately, the scent is hardly available anymore, and to enjoy it, one must be well-acquainted with the old aldehydic fragrances from the 70s and 80s.
