A Budget-friendly alternative to Terre d'Hermès

I've desired Terre d'Hermès for a while and tried samples of both the Parfum and Eau Givrée versions, finding their appeal undeniable. However, the high price of around 80 euros for 50ml led me to seek more affordable options. After some research, I discovered Rasasi Fattan pour Homme. Priced at a mere 15 euros, it was a very tempting blind buy.

Now having worn Fattan a few times, I can offer some insight. I think it does resemble Terre d'Hermès, but with a distinct green note. Though its initial impression is synthetic and overpowering. Unlike the subtle start of TDH, Fattan is bold and needs some time to settle before emitting pleasant vibes reminiscent of TDH.

In a direct comparison, Fattan doesn't emerge as a winner, but allowing it to dry down reveals improvement. It offers an experience reminiscent of TDH with a greener twist and less depth. If TDH were like a pianist playing a complicated two-handed chord, Fattan replicates it with one hand and 3 notes — close, but lacking intricate nuance.

Terre d'Hermès, with its French origins, signifies soil or earth, featuring deep, dark, oily base notes. Fattan deviates here by omitting these notes and substituting them with a prominent green accord. If I were to visualize TDH with colors, it would be earthy brown with a green center and orange top. While Fattan leans towards a green base with an orange or maybe even yellow top, lacking a defined center.

Could Fattan perhaps be chasing a different version of TDH, like Eau Intense Vétiver? Based on notes, it seems so. Lacking a sample, I can only speculate. Ultimately, Rasasi Fattan pour Homme is an affordable alternative capturing some of TDH's essence, offering a greener twist and less complexity — commendable for those on a budget. My TDH longing is satisfied for now, but it might resurface in the future.
