No aqua here, a beast is peeing!

Oh dear, there’s nothing written here yet, neither scent notes nor comments. Well, my nose will have to navigate through the fog blindfolded...

I discovered this fragrance at an Advent flea market and, although it wasn’t a bargain, I took it home. My curiosity was too great, as I could immediately tell it was old and just hoped it hadn’t gone off. It hasn’t. However, one shouldn’t be misled by the name of this fragrance. Because aquatic, fresh, or maritime, there’s absolutely nothing here! Well, I suspected something like that already, since the label on the bottle looks very old, and back then fresh sporty scents for women were still rather unknown ;) And just upon unscrewing and sniffing the bottle, it becomes clear: Here lurks a real blast from the past: Aldehydes, as far as the nose can smell. And hardly have they faded away when some animal pees on my leg or rather on my arm! Phew, that piercing urine note makes me gasp for air...

Fortunately, it doesn’t last long, and you can hardly believe it, but after the massive opening, the fragrance actually becomes softer. Gradually, a few timid little flowers bloom, which I unfortunately cannot identify. I also smell something slightly leathery, and there’s definitely some animal in there. And probably not just one... All in all, Aquamarine is a heavy and musky scent.

When I smell this fragrance, I see silver-white curls in front of me, on which a mohair hat is perched while enjoying cake in a café, so that the freshly permed waves won’t be ruined... - So, I hope I’ve somewhat avoided the nasty word “O…d…” now, but unfortunately, this association keeps pushing itself on me, because this fragrance is really, really OLDSCHOOL!

But I love sniffing old fragrances that were once in vogue in a completely different time, and so this was a very exciting experience. Some manage to make the leap into today, others do not. In my opinion, Aquamarine has remained stuck in its time of creation. I would definitely not wear it, but the test was worth it!

Dear Cleopatra, is your Aquamarine an EdT? I was also lucky enough to get a bottle and found out it must be from the 60s. I think the scent has more of a floral note. I would love to send you a small sample of my bottle and would be curious to hear your opinion. Maybe you have a more refined nose or an even older scent. I struggle to categorize fragrances. But I find this one (at least the bottle I have) very sweet and floral.

Once, just once, I would love to snag a bottle like that at a flea market. I'd even take the animal with it!

That sounds like a scent adventure, and it can go either way.

If you could see me now... I'm incredibly envious of you for this experience and I'm adding to my New Year's resolution list for 2015: Go to flea markets more often!

That's exactly what I love, when someone isn't deterred and bravely goes for it. Since your sense of smell obviously hasn't been harmed, congratulations on your daring test! Courage trophy for you :-o

My dear Kleo, just keep it and don't forget that fashion always repeats itself. The perm and schoolgirl knee socks are coming back too. I wonder what the future of perfume looks like? :)))

Here in the area, those with the freshly thatched roof always smelled like hairspray and Tosca. But hey, maybe I'm just 10 years too young! I definitely know who you see as your target audience... My mom was born in '41.

I think it's great that you sacrificed yourself to enrich this database with a comment on a previously uncommented fragrance. Medal of bravery!

As a child, I had a little soap with this scent that I loved to smell. I'm not familiar with the EDT. I really like the name "Aquamarine" and the pretty label color on the bottle.
It's great that you commented on the fragrance so nicely.

The wavy curls and all that, I only see stuff like this on TV; these are clichés. I, for one, live with older ladies, and none of them would wear something like that. They love wood, resin, incense, smoke. But maybe in big cities. Still, I give it a +.

Hmm, it seems you don't have to cry over every vintage scent that's discontinued ;-) Well, every era had its own fragrance trends. Cheers to that!

The world belongs to the brave :-)) Thanks to your fearlessness, we were able to get to know it a little bit. The charm often lies in discovering such rarities rather than wearing them.
