Russian Soul
What does "Open Gold" have to do with Russia? I can't say for sure, but that's how I feel.
This is a wonderfully spicy fragrance, just as I imagine the scent of the seemingly endless taiga and the forests there. Although I have never been there.
Woods, grasses, spices, flowers, above all clove, rose, and jasmine at its heart, and leather like the jackets and boots of Cossacks in the "old Tsarist Empire".
I see the onion domes of the Kremlin before me, the square in front covered in snow, a large weekly market with everything the heart desires, for the rich and the less fortunate.
A medley of spices, fabrics, vegetables, and fruits, tea kept hot in samovars, offered against the cold, to warm up. With cloves and cinnamon.
Fiery, cheerful, and equally melancholic songs echo through the streets and alleys.
Away from the big city, villages with simple-living inhabitants, who despite poverty often live to be over 100 years old.
Scents of the East mixed with those of the West in a vast country.
Like hot fire and icy frost. Like delicate blossoms and huge trees.
Like sensitive gold craftsmanship and rough blacksmith work.
Like opposites that belong together. Like the "Russian soul" hard and heartfelt, introspective and exuberant... and ... and ... and... like "Open Gold".

I have it now, your comment was crucial for the purchase since we have very similar tastes. The scent is truly wonderful!

So beautifully described! And very accurate too (especially regarding the Russian soul :-)) I don't know the scent unfortunately, but that needs to change... it seems to be something special...

So-so... I haven't tried the flankers of Open yet. However, the original Open is sensationally good. Do you know it too, and if so, what are the differences? Good shot (36 in Sandhofen the day before yesterday...).
