Puder-Luder or Baby Powder?
To confess right away: I'm not really the type for powder puffs. Nor am I the romantic type. Not even when it comes to fragrances. Therefore, I am completely clueless in the realm of powdery scents, and I actually categorize them into just two groups: Puder-Luder and Baby-Puder.
And l’oscar clearly falls into the category of the most exclusive baby powder - luxurious Nivea cream ever! The animalic note in this fragrance, on my skin and in my nose, is at most that of a warm-sleeping baby, with fine downy hairs slightly dampened and pressed to the head.
The opening consists of a full dose of aldehydes. Just a few months ago, this would have meant the end of the fragrance for me. However, a curious effect has occurred. Aldehydes no longer send me rushing towards the faucet and soap; instead, they fill me with a quiet nostalgia, a memory of some of my mother's fragrances, from the time of permed hair and clouds of hairspray. And through my newly kindled love for vintage scents, I also know that this sometimes quite penetrating top note can quickly dissipate.
And so it is with l’oscar: Practically immediately, a shower of floral powder - violet powder, rose powder, jasmine powder, clove powder, and several other varieties - gently descends upon me in an overall delicate composition. By delicate, I certainly do not mean inconspicuous, but rather that the floral scent, which can often be overwhelming to the point of being narcotic in perfumes, must submit to the powder here.
The base, which once again draws on the tried-and-true Roja base combination of spice, wood, resin, and musk, is above all one thing: powdery, with a hint of cream. Only relatively late can I detect a trace of animalic notes: perhaps a hint of leather?
Nevertheless: No dirty powder seductress here, but rather a softly flattering, innocent powder scent.
So how does such a fragrance find its way into my collection, which usually goes in a completely different direction? Perhaps it is indeed the subconscious memory of security as a baby, because I wear this scent when my professional life is completely overwhelming, and in the evening, after what feels like an endlessly long day, I find olfactory comfort and luxury to be an absolute necessity.
And l’oscar perfectly fulfills this need for me! Both the comfort and the luxury!
