My Battlefield

Only five fragrances, beautiful bottles - I love such bottles - and such romantic, promising names. I am particularly excited about these fragrances and have chosen Deva des Fleurs as my first one today. Why Deva, and what does that mean? There is no French word Deva, at least I haven't found one. There is Diva and there is devant, so either "Flower Diva" or "In Front of the Flowers"? Sometimes these names are quite puzzling.

The fragrance components Ylang-Ylang, vanilla, sandalwood - lovely, I was really looking forward to this. The incense, well, it probably won't be that bad. So, as always, generously applied to the wrist.

But here I was completely mistaken, as the incense is absolutely dominant in this fragrance. From the very first second, all the other fragrance components are knocked down by it. Only after some time do I sense, from a distance, a very faint, delicate, and soft floral scent that threatens to suffocate in the incense. Neither vanilla nor sandalwood are involved in any way here.

Since incense is an absolute nemesis for me, the test today turned into a nightmare. One really has to like incense to be able to endure this fragrance.

I don't know if it's well made; for my taste, it's not, as two of the listed fragrance components are completely unnoticeable and a third is drowned in the incense. An extreme, this Deva des Fleurs, and unfortunately a big disappointment for me. But I still have four candidates ahead of me!

Dear Monni, I just received a travel spray of it with 15 ml directly from the company Sama today. What did you have for testing? I'm so hooked on all the decants from A... that I only buy from specialty retailers now, and I only review and comment on O-samples. I only comment on those when I feel it's important. But your test was so long ago; they’re supposed to be natural scents, and I smell something really nice when I open the tube. Best regards!

Oh, so "Deva" just means God or Goddess, but not really; it's more like a divine servant, kind of like an Indian angel :-)

I think my nose is broken - I don't smell any smoke, just wonderfully citrusy incense *scratches head* I find it dreamy...

Sweetheart, this one just doesn't work. At first, it smells like smoky coats in a pub, and then it just smells like an old piece of wood. No incense for me.

What do you think, is it something for the gloomy, melancholic Mr. EP?

I think Deva is the name of an Indian goddess; didn't Monica Bellucci name her daughter that too?
