Jasmine and indole

I love jasmine absolute, and have even had the privilege of smelling it in isolation. Unfortunately, I find that a lot of perfumes struggle to get jasmine right, and this one is no exception.

I'm not sure if it's just the specific kind of jasmine used here, but this scent finds itself on the wrong side of the indole note. A dirtiness reminiscent of recently fertilized soil spoils the lovely jasmine that's hiding somewhere underneath it all. And unfortunately, things kind of stay that way — the perfume is rather linear. I don't smell the clove that this is supposed to open with, and don't smell the tobacco with which it's supposed to leave.

While I don't love this specific scent, what I do love, and want to acknowledge, is the brand's focus on sustainability and ethical supply chains. It's a big part of what made me get their discovery set, and I wish more perfume houses follow suit. And it's not like I dislike all their scents, either; I find Nubian Musk rather nice, for instance.
