A Fiery Chile Pepper And Sandalwood Lover's Dream...
Padparadscha opens with an amazing combination of jasmine, supported by both cinnamon and clove (even though neither are listed as official notes). The spiced jasmine is shortly joined by a very well-done fiery red chile pepper that is the primary heart note with a juniper berry undertone that is somewhat reminiscent of pine needles. A woody base of cedar creeps into the heart notes but stays relatively well-concealed, content to remain in the background while the hot spice smolders. Sandalwood adds a last bit of sweetness working with the remnants of the jasmine presented earlier to counter the continuing spicy nature of the scent. Projection is above average and longevity is average.

Padparadscha is a hidden gem of a scent (and it is named after a rare sapphire so I guess that is apropos). It is a chile pepper lover’s dream come true as that aspect is extremely well-implemented. With chile pepper as the star you might expect it to be a very dry and hot scent, but the jasmine, clove and cinnamon temper the heat and add just the slightest touch of subtle sweetness to the overall composition with the juniper and cedar adding perfect support. This is definitely a superb composition crafted by a nose I confess to have never heard of in Dulon. I will endeavor to keep an eye out for further releases by Ms. Dulon and her company Satellite as not only is Padparadscha a powerful release, it is very reasonably priced at $80 retail for 100ml. That is a steal for this type of quality, scoring a very strong buy recommendation. Bravo Dulon! Padparadscha is beyond excellent and earns a well-deserved 4.5 stars out of 5.

So glad I bought a sample first!
I almost did a blind buy on this I wanted it so bad. But then sense prevailed and I ordered a sample first. While I appreciate all the fine ingredients used in this elixir, it ends up smelling like clove oil on my skin. It reminds me a lot of the clove chewing gum smell from a long time ago, too. I'm really glad I got to try this though and I think for lovers of heavy spicy incensey perfumes, you should definitely try this one!

Cedar and Sandalwood heaven
Wonderful and unfortunately extinct Padparadscha from French jewelry house Satellite is spicy ambery Cedar-/Sandalwood with a hint of conifers and incense. It reminds me a lot of the other great balsamic woody masterpieces like TamDao (Diptyque), Tumulte Pour Homme (Lacroix) and Sequoia (CDG).

How Padparadscha Stole the Show from the Maharaja
Now - it may not fulfill Indian associations. But perhaps it does. Even if not entirely. And quite differently.
Imagine an Indian palace straight out of a storybook. All clichés on display.
There sits the hefty Maharaja with a grand mustache under his turban, sitting upright on his cushion. He wears an equally hefty fragrance with patchouli, woods, and a spice explosion.
But what is that? What is wafting in? His English butler. Somehow, I have a feeling. The stiff guy has just poured himself another gin. He does that often. Discreetly. But you can smell it. And how! The butler serves spiced tea, then disappears again. Helps himself to another one. Genever. Sprinkles a bit of pepper and chili afterward. He drinks a bit. Quite a bit, actually. And more and more often. At your service, sir? Certainly. Does he brush against the jasmine? No! Floral notes are really not his thing. Later, something woody, well, quite massive the tray, still soaked with a few drops of juniper water.
Padparadscha is a very interesting, very bitter fragrance, unisex, for anyone who enjoys intense, unconventional, quirky things. For me, on days when I have to fight my way through, so to speak, as sustenance. On the skin, not in the stomach!
The Padparadscha has stolen the show from the Maharaja. The culprit was once again the butler.
Nothing Indian - we will have to find our way into it. But the old, slightly eccentric guy is really not to be underestimated. Very quirky, but fascinating.

The Hippie Lacks Patchouli
The name of this fragrance is rather misleading, as the hippie really stays in the Black Forest. To pack the backpack and hitchhike to India, the perfume lacks patchouli and a few sweet, heavy floral notes. Instead, the fragrance reminds more of the scent in a health food store where the juniper has just been restocked.

However, Padparadscha is an invigorating scent with its peppery-spicy top note, which is softened by a hint of jasmine. However, it really is just the top note, as this healthful scent remains quite strong. A few smoothing notes would have done it good.

The base remains solid, grounding the fragrance, and once the juniper top note has faded, it feels familiar again, as nothing extraordinary appears anymore.

Padparadscha is a spicy, invigorating unisex fragrance, but it lacks a bit of refinement. A sonorous name alone is not enough.

ISO E Super pepper incense with a dried fruit note. A linear incense stick progression - a martyrdom of saints.

Cheaper stepbrother of Tom Ford's Bois Marocain. More alcohol and not nearly as delicate. Apparently, he's a smoker too.

Pepper and juniper berries provide strength and sharpness, wood adds clear edges, while light floral accents soften. A clear, bold scent.
