Rumtopf
Now I finally dare to tackle the already announced comment on the first olfactory journey of Guerlain:
Surely the ancient connection between the two metropolises is to blame:
- the first of 3 journeys leads to Moscow.
The scent starts fresh, herbal (surely tarragon is responsible here). However, it quickly becomes apparent that this is not just a "refreshing water," as deep essences become perceptible. Something strongly alcoholic penetrates the nose. I was reminded of Rumtopf (which my grandmother passionately made). Yes, rum - mixed with a sweet vanilla note dominates very quickly. Now I read in the notes something about plum. It's hard to say much about that. I return to Grandma's Rumtopf, which always contained plums as well. However, in my opinion, plums are rather low in scent. One might hope that the rum/vanilla note soon takes over and gives everything an oriental finish, but no, the herbal, somewhat piercing, almost bitter note remains throughout all phases of the scent development.
It bothers me a bit with this fragrance.

The longevity of Paris-Moscou is impressive. The city scents, as they are also called by Guerlain, are assigned to the repertoire of the "Maison scents." The prices called there are in the upper segment. So one wonders that here the amount of 245 ml is offered for about 160 euros and on top of that emits this intense, long-lasting scent aura.
For the flacons, something more beautiful could have been thought of: a simple round glass cylinder, with a screw-on sprayer, and a poorly executed, hardly legible inscription (a label would have been more informative). However, the little gag of including a city map with a brief description of the sights in the box is well done.

I have wondered whether this scent is associated with Moscow.
I know the Guerlain room fragrance "Winter in Russia," which speaks a very clear, accurate statement to me.
Here it is not so. I could imagine wearing Paris-Moscou for Christmas shopping in New York.
I categorize the scent as 'unisex.'

Moscow is a beautiful country
From Guerlain's discontinued & somewhat overlooked "Une Ville, Un Parfum" series, "Moscow" is probably the most well-known offshoot - but of course, in Guerlain standards, it is still an absolute outsider. I had completely erased it from my memory when I discovered a sample at a Parfumo meeting over the weekend - all the more curious I was for the final test. Forgotten Guerlain gem? Or rightly dismissed (high-quality) uniformity? The truth lies somewhere in between, for me personally...

Moscow's drydown is well-known, beautiful & perhaps only slightly cooler interpreted - Guerlinade. The famous, delicious & extremely noble tonka-vanilla-musk accord that characterizes & connects a large part of Guerlain's fragrances. The first half of this treat dedicated to the Russian capital stands out much more. Here, a green, ethereal & creamy absinthe scent dominates, which is experienced far too rarely. Neither in perfumes nor in real life, as I am not an absinthe drinker, I believe I have never even tasted it. Alcoholic, woody & yet sweet/gentle - most reminiscent of the women's version of L'Instant. Does it fit Russia? Yes, the scent is soft & cold, hard & delicate, even if the green absinthe replaces the clear vodka. An icy cuddly scent that, despite a memorable beginning, offers too much routine & familiarity, failing to stand out enough. A good, somewhat uninspired ode to the icy city with the Kremlin.

Bottle: among the simplest from Guerlain - okay.
Sillage: discreet & (still) faster to the body than one is used to from the Guerlinade.
Longevity: solid 6 hours through & through.

Conclusion: if I ever take a city trip to Moscow, I will miss it - otherwise, there are plenty of (some better) alternatives, even internally at Guerlain. Absinthe should be rummaged through more often from the magic box by the French!

My Lost Love
When I heard that this, my favorite fragrance, was being discontinued, I was shocked and deeply saddened. I felt as if a part of myself had been taken away. Perhaps it’s because Moscow has accompanied me through all of life’s situations since I was 16. I can still remember what it was like to smell this fragrance for the first time: one association that always comes to mind is Bruce the shark from "Finding Nemo," who smells blood, rolls his eyes in delight, and wants nothing else. That’s why I tiptoed around it for years; the price was quite high for me back then as a teenager. However, I seized every opportunity to generously spray myself whenever I passed by, for example, on a school trip to London at Harrods. By now, I even own a backup bottle and am saving diligently.
The fragrance starts for me so fresh, herbal, and intoxicating with lemon and absinthe that I can understand why the latter was banned in many countries until the mid-20th century due to its supposedly hallucinogenic effects. The pine needles always give me, as a girl from the Black Forest, a certain feeling of security that I associate with the woods. The fruity note of plum and blackcurrant remains pleasantly balanced in the background for me, accompanying the fragrance, unlike the fresh opening, almost until the end. The heart note, which consists solely of jasmine, gives the fragrance a mysterious, almost mythical depth. Moscow ends softly and roundly in a dream of high-quality, not overly sweet vanilla and a slight woodiness. The fragrance never becomes sticky sweet but retains its mysterious aura.
It is a cozy scent that remains interesting the whole time and never annoys. Sometimes I can still perceive the fragrance in my neck even after three hair washes.
While I feel a bit nostalgic every time I wear Moscow, I am also glad that I was able to discover this wonderful and unique perfume for myself.

Familiar yet special
Of all the fragrances I have encountered so far, Moscow is the one that suits me best. It is elegant, subtle, yet I perceive it very distinctly even after a full workday. It has something light and simultaneously melancholic about it, is familiar but still extraordinary. For me, it fits almost every situation in life.

I feel very comfortable with this scent; I can perceive all the listed fragrance notes, but they are so finely tuned that I find the scent very well-rounded. No trace of rum pot whatsoever.

I am relatively often approached about the fragrance, usually like this:

You smell good... this seems somehow familiar... but I think I've never smelled anything like this before!

So far, I have only encountered one person wearing Moscow: A woman rode towards me on a bicycle - obviously Russian and significantly older than me, in a completely different life situation - she was on an outing with her family. And even there, Moscow fit perfectly. I had to smile and thought it was wonderful that a perfume accompanies different people in different situations and simply enriches our day.

City Trip à la Guerlain
I have never been to Moscow and have no idea what it might smell like. Probably similar to almost any other big city. However, if one were to generously spray this fragrance into the air so that the city smells just like it, then I MUST go there and probably won't come back anytime soon ;-)

Thanks to the lovely Tivellon, I got a decant of this fragrance, and I must say that it absolutely matches my taste!

The slightly fresh and herbal opening (absinthe, bergamot, lemon) is quickly replaced for me by the heart and base notes. These ensure that the fragrance takes on a sweet and spicy direction, but always retains a hint of freshness underneath. Either the top notes are more lasting than expected, or some fragrance components have been “withheld.” The entire composition never drifts into a sweet-sticky direction for me. It sounds somewhat contradictory now, but I feel exactly that way.
Fortunately, I cannot detect the “rum pot character” mentioned by Coriolon in my case.

For me, this is an absolutely fantastic unisex fragrance that is not too much and certainly not too little. The longevity is brilliant, and the sillage leaves nothing to be desired.

If this keeps up with the Guerlain fragrances, my fragrance cabinet will soon look like a Guerlain temple, because this fragrance also has to go on my.....wish list!

I don't find it fruity sweet.
For me, it's more about sandalwood and vanilla well combined... Definitely nicely done. But nothing special now.

Green touch becomes candy-fruity and sweet. A gentle kiss on the forehead, without courting, without passion. Delicate and sensitive. Farewell.

A truly wonderful scent where the (a bit too) sweet base is well balanced by the green notes (pine needles).

A delicate seduction. From fruity to slightly piney, it becomes caramel-like in the end. Unfortunately, it's a bit subtle. But I really like it!

I would have probably preferred Moscow. Delicate green, soft flowers, a subtle hint of freshness, on a fluffy-creamy base. Smells lovely.
