Rumtopf
Now I finally dare to tackle the already announced comment on the first olfactory journey of Guerlain:
Surely the ancient connection between the two metropolises is to blame:
- the first of 3 journeys leads to Moscow.
The scent starts fresh, herbal (surely tarragon is responsible here). However, it quickly becomes apparent that this is not just a "refreshing water," as deep essences become perceptible. Something strongly alcoholic penetrates the nose. I was reminded of Rumtopf (which my grandmother passionately made). Yes, rum - mixed with a sweet vanilla note dominates very quickly. Now I read in the notes something about plum. It's hard to say much about that. I return to Grandma's Rumtopf, which always contained plums as well. However, in my opinion, plums are rather low in scent. One might hope that the rum/vanilla note soon takes over and gives everything an oriental finish, but no, the herbal, somewhat piercing, almost bitter note remains throughout all phases of the scent development.
It bothers me a bit with this fragrance.
The longevity of Paris-Moscou is impressive. The city scents, as they are also called by Guerlain, are assigned to the repertoire of the "Maison scents." The prices called there are in the upper segment. So one wonders that here the amount of 245 ml is offered for about 160 euros and on top of that emits this intense, long-lasting scent aura.
For the flacons, something more beautiful could have been thought of: a simple round glass cylinder, with a screw-on sprayer, and a poorly executed, hardly legible inscription (a label would have been more informative). However, the little gag of including a city map with a brief description of the sights in the box is well done.
I have wondered whether this scent is associated with Moscow.
I know the Guerlain room fragrance "Winter in Russia," which speaks a very clear, accurate statement to me.
Here it is not so. I could imagine wearing Paris-Moscou for Christmas shopping in New York.
I categorize the scent as 'unisex.'
