Oud meets orange - My oud experience from Singapore
During my trip through Southeast Asia, my path also led me to Singapore, a city that immediately fascinated me with its mixture of modernity, cleanliness and lush greenery. There is a lot to discover in the various districts, such as the Muslim-influenced Kampong Glam district, with its colorful houses, small cafés and much more chaos than in the city center.
Escaping the hustle and bustle, I found the Sifr Aromatics store in the side streets; a fragrant oasis. Black walls, dark wooden shelves and countless bottles. In addition, a pleasant but unobtrusive room fragrance and refreshing coolness. Perfect conditions for testing fragrances in peace and quiet.
I had been looking for my first oud fragrance for a long time (Tom Ford "Oud Wood" is my absolute favorite, but the price always put me off). Then I tried the "Summer Oud" fragrance at Sifr Aromatics and was instantly blown away: An intense oud opening, strong and present, but immediately picked up by sweet, fruity orange. The combination immediately reminded me of a bar of Lindt dark orange chocolate. Unusual, but absolutely harmonious; dark, warm and sweet.
The consultation in the store was fantastic; we had a long chat about fragrance compositions, I was shown the individual raw materials of my perfume and I was even allowed to examine a piece of real amber. Everything was lovingly arranged for a souvenir photo. An encounter that went far beyond a simple perfume purchase.
I had a 50 ml bottle mixed for me and this fragrance really is a powerhouse. Dosage is everything here: one spray too many and the elevator passengers turn up their noses - I know that from personal experience ^^
Unfortunately, oud is difficult to wear in Europe, many noses are not used to it and the sweetness, combined with the heavy, animalic oud, quickly becomes opulent. That's why Summer Oud tends to lead a quiet existence at home, with the occasional sniff of the bottle. But it is firmly planned for my next trip to Dubai, where oud is simply a must.
Conclusion: Summer Oud is not a simple fragrance, but an experience; oriental, interpreted in a modern way, with a sweet soul. For me, a lasting memory of a special place in a special city.
