Yesterday, without intending to buy anything specific, I found myself in the only niche perfumery in my city to browse and sniff around a bit. At some point, I ended up at Simone Andreoli. I had heard and read so much about "Malibu" and "Leisure" - quickly tested them on my skin. Okay, they smelled just as the majority of reviewers described them. "Leisure" didn't blow me away, and "Malibu" smelled almost exactly like Virgin Island Water, which I already have. But what was that between the two fragrances on the shelf? Sunplosion. I had only heard about it once and had no memory of the description. So I sprayed it on and....... wow! That was exactly what I had been searching for months! Namely, a not too sweet, mango-dominated summer scent. It initially reminded me of Cruz del Sur II, which I had recently ordered as a decant. Wow, I thought, let's see how sunplosion performs on my skin. I went next door to the café and chatted for over an hour with another perfume enthusiast, while of course repeatedly sniffing my arm. Yes, you are the one who is coming home with me today (no, not the guy!), no matter how long (or how short) you last. But as an EdP intense, the longevity can't be that bad, I thought. However, that didn't quite hold true throughout the day. The scent weakens relatively quickly and becomes closer to the skin, lasting about 4-5 hours on me. And I have the impression that it hardly projects. I can only smell it faintly, even when I spray generously. That makes me a bit sad. Caution: the liquid is slightly oily!
I understand the negative reviews, or I know what is meant by this "artificial fruit sweetness" or "gummy bear scent" and that some people find it anything but appealing as a perfume. But I like this special fruit cocktail, and to me, Sunplosion doesn't smell "cheap." In my nose, the fruits don't come across as artificial or synthetic. I find the mango and guava to be quite natural. The light coconut note fits perfectly, and the hibiscus flower adds a very delicate floral note.
After about half an hour, the extremely overwhelming, fruity "squeaky" aspect subsides a bit. The sandalwood could have been dosed a bit higher for my taste (I love sandalwood). It gives the fragrance a slight warmth and depth. The scent remains sweet and fruity in my nose until the end, with a very pleasant sandalwood note, giving me beautiful Caribbean vibes with delicious mango. I have finally found what I was looking for. And all by chance. No, sunplosion is definitely not comparable to Cruz del Sur II, as the latter is much more complex, richer, and stronger. But I am happy with my choice, and that is the main thing. By the way, the fragrance is great for layering. For those who enjoy that, like I do, here are two tips: with Fico di Amalfi, it becomes a bit greener and more herbaceous, and with Blackberry & Bay (J. Malone), it gets a slightly tart berry note. I will definitely try out more combinations. But aside from that, I also really enjoy wearing sunplosion solo.
