... above all floats Etna
I confess: my only personal acquaintance with Sicily took place on a Thursday, 21 December, coming from Malta.
The next morning the flight went back to Germany, to the pre-Christmas grey city.
The suitcase was already packed when I was picked up from the hotel at five in the morning and driven over the island with other, equally foolish tourists to the port of Valetta. There waited the catamaran, which should bring us in ninety minutes over the Mediterranean Sea.
It was the last trip of the year; then the holidays and the turn of the year also began for the crew.
Since I wanted to do this adventure, the trip with a catamaran, I landed shortly before Christmas in the south of Sicily. From the harbour we took a bus first to Syracus and then to the "Archaeological Park", where the ordered lunch was waiting.
Already on the way to the city I admired all the still rich citrus trees, which partly bore flowers and fruits at the same time.
Now 18° winter temperature cannot be compared with the summer scent impressions that "Agrumi di Sicilia" offers as a concentrate.
The illusion of the dark green, lacquered leaves, which sometimes almost form a natural roof, is impressive in itself. The scent of this sunlit foliage seems to underline the fast developing, tempting fruitiness as a fine fragrance nuance.
The walk in an imaginary limonerie can begin: ripe bergamot aromas full of fragrance open this fragrance. Even at the slightest pressure, they seem to spray their essential oils.
So, despite a certain oily heaviness, there is also something very lively, floating in this fragrance composition.
Because a beautiful lemon also appears, filled with ripe fruit flesh, juice and oil.
As if the entire fruit had been used to extract the scent.
I like this thought: nothing of the beauty that nature and many hands give to work is wasted.
After this successful fragrance chord, "Agrumi di Sicilia" becomes quieter: the heart of this creation unfolds, becoming softer, finer.
The distinctive mandarin blossom and the heart warming, always slightly waxy orange blossom form a harmonious team.
After the concentrated fragrance explosion of the opening, this softness is very welcome.
The slightly vibrating senses are soothed and I feel a slightly bitter touch: Petitgrain seems to sneak in on quiet soles.
The lemon a lemon's own aroma, also called "cedar apple" among other things, skilfully leads over to the spice of the quiet silvery cedar wood.
Like no other, this wood species, with its intense aroma, enters into a happy relationship with the southern, sun-drenched fruits and flowers.
Thus, a shady stay in a leafy cycle shimmering in front of sunlight, woven with fruits and flowers, is faked.
The southern, somewhat rustic charm of this Mediterranean island is captured in "Il Concentrato degli Agrumi di Sicilia".
If you then imagine a light sea breeze that mixes all the aromas, the illusion of a special refreshment on hot days is complete.
The only thing missing is the symbol of Sicily: Etna, which with its snow-covered cone looks from everywhere as if it were floating weightlessly on clouds.
Even if a multitude of devils in his interior always stirs up devastating fires.
"Agrumi di Sicilia" as a concentrate is very economical to use. It should be used with caution; light oil residues on the wardrobe as well as skin discoloration caused by the sun can occur from time to time.
And yet the content of the classic, flat bottle is a very special piece of jewellery: a little pure nature!
The dream of summer, sun and soothing warmth seems to be captured in each of the heavy drops.
For me, "Agrumi di Sicilia" has always been something extraordinary that warmed and delighted me.
Only I made the mistake of giving this little treasure to my neighbor; I thought she would be happy.
According to her, she loves the aroma of citrus fruits in fragrances.
Only my gift ended up in a dark corner of her cramped wardrobe - "Somewhere in there!" she said the other day.
That makes me sad! This glow, especially on dull days, wants to be worn; then it fulfils its original purpose: it just makes you happy!
