...but you have to start somewhere. This is my first comment on Parfumo - about the first perfume from my current collection, how fitting. Before this, I had owned a few fragrances, but I had never really engaged with the topic. After all, I was still a student and I thought the money just wasn't enough for the good stuff...
...until I stumbled upon a video by Flickchen, in which she referred to Spirit of Cashmere Musk as THE dupe for Hypnotic Poison. I must admit, at that time I didn't even know the original, but I have always liked sweet things...and smelling like Dior for little money sounded tempting, so the little bottle ended up in my shopping basket on my next shopping trip, even though there was no tester available. Yes, one should avoid blind purchases, but even a blind chicken finds a grain - and I found a great fragrance.
Spirit of Cashmere Musk primarily smells like vanilla. Orange blossom is subtly noticeable, as well as woods and a tiny bit of musk. When I spray it on, I think of a large bowl of vanilla pudding and a warm blanket. That's why the scent was able to convince me immediately back then: I was in the middle of an exam period and quite stressed. The Spirit simply whispers to you: "Relax, everything will be fine..."
The fragrance doesn't undergo a significant development on my skin; after all, it doesn't have a fresh top note, but gets straight to the point. It may become a bit warmer, otherwise it remains quite consistent, which I find perfectly fine. It's also worth mentioning that it doesn't come with that alcohol scent that cheaper perfumes often have.
Longevity is unfortunately subjective. Generally, it doesn't take long for me to need a touch-up. However, the Spirit does not disappoint - I can detect it on my skin for up to 4 hours. But I’ll say it again: the longevity and sillage are really only mediocre for me. When I gave my mom a spritz on her wrist, the perfume was still very strong from 2 meters away!
In the meantime, I have also tested Hypnotic Poison and I don't think the two are really twins, but that's not a big deal. Personally, I find this one even more beautiful and interesting. However, anyone really looking for a light version of HP might find happiness with Sweet Hope by La Rive.
In summary, Spirit of Cashmere Musk is a fragrance that deserves respect for the quality in relation to the price. Personally, I associate a lot of good things with it because it brought me much joy during a stressful time. So, you can guess what ended up in my basket again without hesitation on my last shopping trip ;)
I'm here way too rarely, and a welcome would be a bit too late now. Thanks for your lovely review, and here's the beginner's trophy from me. I've rated it too. Unfortunately, many fragrances had to leave because of my migraines.
I enjoyed reading this. Great first comment. I like the scent too and have known Hypnotic for ages. I find Cashmere Musk to be softer, lighter, and even cozier. A wonderful, affordable fragrance.
Beautiful, well-thought-out comment. I basically follow your strategy of commenting on the "smaller" fragrances in the collection as well. I'm looking forward to reading more!
I think many are referring to the old version of HP, which is really quite similar to this scent. But it doesn't really matter, this fragrance is just genius!
