A popular perfume by Stéphanie de Saint-Aignan for men, released in 2006. The scent is leathery-sweet. The production was apparently discontinued.

The Completely Private Suede
what a discovery! Voleur de Ciels starts off quite harsh, for my taste very medicinal, leaving an impression somewhere between an old dentist's office and bitter valerian drops. This might even be off-putting at first, but somehow I really like this strict, slightly bitter-stinging scent.

However, this impression fades quite quickly and the fragrance develops into an incredibly cuddly, embracing, even love-giving treasure for me. Voleur de Ciels becomes soft and slightly sweet, but not sticky or kitschy. It evokes in me the association of a large suede blanket, which is as cuddly and delicate as cashmere, yet has this slightly roughened surface and a very noble leather scent that has been in the family for a long time. To my knowledge, such blankets do not exist, but I can experience this feeling with this fragrance. I felt secure, experienced a sense of warmth and coziness.

Voleur de Ciels is not a true gourmand, much less sweet than Cuir Beluga or similar fragrances, and at no point is it so dominant in vanilla. It is even much more bitter, yet the balance between bitter and rough notes and this wonderful cuddly quality is so perfectly achieved for me that I can feel so comfortable with it.

A candidate for decanting, which unfortunately is probably hard to come by, and a fragrance that has definitely sweetened my day.

My heart is a private road
... and once again, Stéphanie de Saint-Aignan has presented us with an interesting, intriguing fragrance pyramid in Voleur de Ciels, just like with the Embruns d´Ambre I recently tested. A fragrance pyramid - or rather, a listing of the fragrance notes, as the notes do not seem to be pyramidally structured - of an unusual kind, here things seem to be brought together that do not belong together. So the question arises: does it work with the sky thief as it did so grandly with Embruns d´Ambre?

But let's take it step by step. The thief makes a strong entrance, mint is immediately present for me, of an earthy kind, full and round, but also somewhat medicinal. I am already thinking a bit of Leukoplast, but then it becomes softer, deeper. Is that already the leather? Or the milk? Rarely has an assessment been so difficult for me as here. But do I even want to completely dissect the scent? No. Because something entirely different happens.

The fragrance captivates me in its entirety, in its delicate progression, it evokes images, feelings, associations like rarely happens. Immediately I have a piece of music by Bent in my ear, "Private Road", and wondrously, scent and music merge intimately here. What unites the two? Like in Private Road, it is a kind of calm gliding, a simultaneous closing and opening. That sounds contradictory, but listen to the song, and you may understand what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebd87zFaPug

There is movement, but it is a calm, even movement, in a very open, wide space, outside, the view is vast, the sky infinite, the wind caresses the skin and flows through the hair. The dark, velvety voice of Zoe Johnston is turned inward, it is exceptional yet natural, not loud or flashy. The mood is completely introverted, despite the brightness and freshness that Voleur de Ciels radiates, just like Private Road. "My heart is a private road," that captures it perfectly: with this scent, I am with myself, I absorb the bright, calm, fresh outside and surrender to it, completely for myself alone.

I find it exceedingly astonishing that minty freshness - and yes, this scent impression remains relatively dominant for me - can evoke such a velvety, introspective association. This makes the fragrance exquisite and special in my eyes. Apparently, the leather (or is it the milk? Or both?) here causes a kind of catalytic change, without me being able to perceive it as the fragrance note "leather" itself. I find that incredibly refined and finely put together.

Floral notes - jasmine in this case - I can hardly sniff out. I can sense a hint of it later on, but "floral" is not present in its entirety here. Spicy, fresh, velvety, that is the lasting impression. Soft like the summer wind on a dry, not quite warm sunny summer day, which, despite the wind rustling through the leaves, is somehow still.

Is this fragrance unisex? Definitely. Even if *on me* nothing sweet remains, and it develops relatively masculine in the drydown, with a slight, not unpleasant!, organic note that reminds me of pheromonized male sweat. But this fragrance is never intrusive, loud, or macho, despite its good sillage. It is and remains from beginning to end "my private road," my inner path that leads me to peace and strength and allows me to face the injustices and restlessness of everyday life and life itself with serenity.

Leather Jackets and Gasoline
Voleur du Ciels is quite an extravagant fragrance. Shortly after spraying, a delicate, shy patchouli note rises to my nose. But not a harsh, musty patchouli, rather a gentle, fine - "summer patchouli." I think of summer meadows, a warm breeze, flowing, airy summer dresses, blowing hair,... ah, lovely...

The summer dreams end abruptly, and I find myself on the runway of a small airport, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The scent takes a sharp turn; I smell gasoline (?) on crackling leather jackets in the cockpit of an old bomber. And in the midst of it all, a small forgotten jasmine blossom.

However, this phase doesn't last too long, and what remains is a warm, sweet amber note, slightly nutty with a hint of gasoline.

Voleur du Ciels is not purely a men's fragrance for me, but can also be worn very well by women who enjoy wearing somewhat "darker" scents.

Conclusion: very interesting!

Heaven's Thief
What a symbolism, that I was just feeling these samples from my handbag while flying, and took them out. Fate wanted the experience of icy air, clouds, and mint to be complete and unique; cold like winter air and at the same time mild like an ointment. It smells exactly like the moments when the sun melts the fog through icy cold.
I have stolen my heaven.
-------Author herself:

Clouds perfume...

Mmmm... do you know what the perfume of clouds smells like ?

You see, thousands feet away from land, where the iced blue
Insinuates in our tiny celestial ship.
I wish I could taste clouds. They reflect sun which gilds them a little.

You whisper complicated words over my dreams.

You give our careful position.

I did believe in Heaven... No way to be serene!

The engine humming is soothing me. It smells good of cold steel, of leather warmed up
By Summer, a bit of our sweat and our thirst, the perfume of forgotten Flowers
On Earth.

I love when we pierce the infinite sky on your steel bird.

Your nice scent... Oh! Thief!

Twin brother of Metal Hurlant, spicy gasoline and aromatic leather, not as heavy as PG, but unmistakably has a DNA.

For me, it's just annoying jasmine from A to Z, along with a worn-out leather jacket & something sweet-fresh. Still has minimal charm.

A scent like an evening by the sea: lively and salty, yet warm and sweet, heated sand between the toes, a final kiss.

Hey, Stéphanie, create a scent where none of the ingredients match. It's considered cool right now! "Voilà, Voleur de ciels!"
