The Color Brown...
...or how the love for oud fragrances came about. It's not so easy to describe, as "brown" is often associated with "evil forces of the mid-20th century" and their modern imitators. Or with "decay, laziness, badness"...
But brown is so much more: warm, cozy, protective, adventurous, earthy... etc., depending on the shade. And in this wonderful scent, powerful reddish-brown dominates. The brown of dark wood, a hint of "light flowers," and the "spicy dark red" of fiery spices. Pepper/chili, a pinch, saffron, the small, yellow rays of light, and the light brown aromas of coriander and cardamom. A very striking, slightly "animalistic" quality. A little adventurous, somewhat mystical and magical, and all in all very warm and balsamic woody.
When I first smelled "oud," it was a bit of a "culture shock." It was precisely "Mukhallat Dahn Al Oudh Moattaq | Ajmal" that came to me as a small sample during an earlier swap. For "normal noses," incredibly dense, unexpectedly with the so-called "barn note" and extremely dark and lasting. In the first few minutes of the scent, I wanted to "wash it off," as it overwhelmed me. But with each passing minute, it became more and more attractive, mysterious, and unmistakable. With this strong scent, I have very similar fragrance notes. And similarly intense. Yet now it felt familiar and unusually beautiful from the start. Still "barn-like," but now in the sense of sensual warmth, resinous-woody variety, and a warming, protective, mysteriously glowing reddish-brown!
Pure Orient and very alluring..... EXOTIC! :-))
