Stuck in the olfactory spider web?
After the metaphorical enthusiasm of my first comment, this one will be a lot more sober...
I stand ambivalently and with a certain distance towards Red Ginger.
I just can't figure you out!
It started with the paper strip and continues now, during what is probably my fifth try.
The citrus-fresh note that immediately struck me as coming solely from the ginger seemed a bit off - and it should be emphasized that my nose is still completely green... um... in terms of detecting fragrance notes -, and lo and behold, a little googling confirmed: Bergamot is also included! Citrus freshness and I are not friends, but thankfully it dilutes quite quickly. What remains I can tolerate quite well.
But then there is, alongside a slight sharpness, this fruity sweetness that has also been present from the start, which again led to a surprised squinting on my part at the fragrance pyramid. Then it hit me like scales falling from my nose: It smells like a certain chocolate called Caribbean Treasure tastes - just without the chocolate. And what might be in there in abundance? Pink pepper, right! So off to the spice cabinet and popped a few pink berries in my mouth... Wow, they are so delicious on their own that I ended up munching a few more. (Note to self: Use more often when cooking.)
Freshness and fruitiness give way to a tender warmth and light spiciness as time goes on. I imagine I can smell a subtle nutmeg, along with a mixture of clove and anise that is hard for me to grasp. Is cinnamon also in play...?
Patchouli in its lightest, not in its showy presence forms the base on me, along with the subtle spices.
When it comes to the rose, I have to admit defeat; for me it is virtually non-existent, although I can't shake the feeling that it is hiding somewhere, I just can't grasp it.
What remains until the - which doesn't take too long for me, after a few hours it has disappeared from me - end is a warm, spicy scent with light sweetness, sharpness, and minimalist wood.
All in all, that sounds quite uplifting, so why my ambivalent and distant behavior? Possibly because I had hoped for a stronger presence from RG. Instead, it remains very close to the body and reserved, unfortunately not lasting as long as desired. Moreover, I missed the presence of the ginger; I can only associate the slight sharpness, apart from the citrus-green start, with it.
On one hand, I could confidently set RG aside, on the other hand, it has me in its grip, I can't let go of it...
