Civet in the chocolate factory
When this sample arrived I could smell it through the bag. It blessed my nose when I first sprayed it. I got a cheese smell like the note listed it was realistic. Then after a couple seconds maybe 35 I got some cocoa notes and civet yet the cheese was prominent. When the cheese started to tone down I got some oud. You can tell it’s real oud by the smell it’s amazing.

After a while I can feel a hot cocoa smell with a civet inside of the cocoa mug therefore civet in the chocolate factory

Dark Night of the Soul
Dark Night of the Soul
The picture this bottle of perfume brings to me:
I feel myself walking through the tall grass at night, surrounded by silence, only the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves. Suddenly, a faint noise from the grass ahead breaks the stillness. In the darkness, I can't see what is lurking ahead and I dare not make a move, my heart racing with tension. The noise seems to be approaching slowly, and I hold my breath, focusing on the shadow in front of me. Gradually, a small silhouette appears in the grass. As it comes closer, I finally see that it is a gentle and friendly goat.

Summary:
Dark Night of the Soul is by far my favorite in the OM Parfum family. The fragrance elements are centered around cocoa, goat milk, powdery notes, darkness, and animalistic scents. The initial slightly gourmand cocoa scent gradually deepens, becoming increasingly animalistic, until it finally transforms into the very realistic smell that a goat emits.

A mind blowing combination of gourmand, animalic and oud
If you are an Om-Parfum fan like me, you may find this familiar- let me put in this way to make you quickly get the idea about this latest work:

Dark Night of The Soul integrates the gourmand facet of Cacao Mania and the profound oud base of Mate-O, while more prominent animalic facet is featured here.

For those who haven’t experienced the aforementioned works by Om Parfum yet, this is an opulent musky oud adorned with silky chocolate and palatable cheese sitting on the base of earthy oakmoss. It is so intricate and rich that evocative of quite some masterpieces from last century, which is opposite to the mainstream minimalism nowadays, but resonates to the regal and complicated vintage perfumes.

It is animalic but not wild, dark yet tranquile. Crafted by an fervent independent artist, Dark Night of The Soul is a unique scent with a story to tell, and ready to heal.

Encounter with the Black Dog
One morning he had returned. I felt his familiar breath, caught a whiff of his disheveled tracks in the soft, crumbling leathers, and hid beneath the pillows. I didn’t want to leave the night anymore. Bitter cocoa made the windows blind, smoldering dust from splintered woods, musty shavings of withered barks fell from the walls. Is the glue under the wallpaper made of brown wilted flowers cheesy, or is it the haze of my own flesh, like roasted milk from goats? Can I still smell myself? Shoes walk outside the doors, cool earth sticks to leather cream and deep in the profiles. My skin bears as many lived traces as amber veins in tobacco leaves, leathery furrows in soft barks; one can burrow into them, get lost, and finally be found again.
**
With "Dark Night of the Soul," Aichi Liu from OM Parfum in Thailand attempted to create an olfactory image of her experienced depression. Apathy, helplessness, darkness, the world out there continues while the inner self confronts death. And finally, the confrontation with the illness, the presence of the Black Dog, this faithful companion, who will eventually become smaller and tamer. "You will feel alone, you will be lonely on this journey, and this is the journey that you have to take on your own, but remember, you are never alone in this process. Many people are the same as you. Have faith," she writes on her homepage. So it is not about a scent that is meant to be depressing, but rather a meditation on the acceptance of the situation and the awareness that there is a way out.
The encounter with the Black Dog begins leathery-animalistic (civet, Indian oud) with nuances of slightly urinous animal skin (hyraceum), embedded in dry, dark-bitter cocoa dust as well as dusty wood shavings and barks (oak, oud). Nestled within the Indian oud, one can soon perceive an accord of goat's milk, cheese, guaiac, and pepper, reminiscent of goat cheese roasted on scorching wood shavings, which I find anything but unpleasant; on the contrary, it develops an exciting, smoky-spicy skin accord with the various oud, amber, and leather notes, which is given a pleasantly indolic touch by iris butter and jasmine, flanked by slightly minty-earthy patchouli and spicy paprika, somewhat blurred by the resinous cedar reminiscent of shoe cream.
It is the leathery-animalistic quality combined with the fascinatingly multi-layered, subtly lived skin accord that vividly represents this very personal confrontation with one’s own depths for me and projects moderately to skin-close throughout the evening.

Alice in Wonderland
In my hand lies a small vial with a few
drops of an amber-colored liquid. It is labeled in foreign
handwriting: "Dark Night of the Soul". Just because of the name, I have to
open it immediately. Carefully, I make a first scent stroke on my
wrist and immediately the world around me spins. What is this
smell? I know it, but from where? It had been lost for several decades and
now it is back!
I am a little girl lying in bed with a cough. My back and chest
have been rubbed with a strange ointment, a rather questionable weapon
against the annoying cough. This is it, this is the smell. I have a fever,
high fever, and like so many little children, I hallucinate in this fever -
everything changes, especially the perception of time, and the seconds
crawl like disgusting slugs. Sometimes they are close, sometimes they disappear
on the horizon. I feel dizzy. I fall very slowly very deep. Good that I
had already read Lewis Carroll back then and know that I have arrived in Alice's Rabbit hole.
My right arm grows longer and longer, as if it wants to move away from
me. It keeps getting longer and bigger, and my ring merges with my
finger. The ring sparkles a little and gives me comfort. All of this becomes
slowly creepy, creepy but not threatening. A part of my brain is
awake and knows that I am safely tucked under the blanket in my bed. A
small nightlight glows in the darkness. The shade is covered with
newspaper, so it doesn’t blind me. I try to read the words but the letters
begin to twist, they jump back and forth and the meaning of the words is no longer
recognizable. Slowly, fear creeps into my soul. What if the heat of my body ignites
the newspaper page and the writing burns irretrievably? At that moment, the
moon sneaks into my room. It has detached itself from the black cloud, gently
cooling my forehead and turning off the little light. The smell of the ointment is
gone. Only a vague memory of the fear remains, still clinging to the
sweaty sheet. The fever has subsided.
Aichi Liu is said to have said that she wants to try something that
awakens childhood memories in her. Was she perhaps rubbed with the
same ointment as I was when she was a child?

Opens great, but then all you get is the smell of a sweaty, dirty goat. Idk why you want so many notes just to smell like Black Phillip.

Usually cocoa is dominant and results unconfortable to wear for long time; in this case it's a sandy ingredient never bored and classy

Dust-dry cocoa meets dried woods. A scent journey into dark abysses. The feeling of depression translated into fragrance. Art!

Dry cocoa, finely woven animal notes, dark berry brew, oudy-resinous finish. Masterful.

Cocoa powder meets urine-animalic. Very ambivalent, heavy stuff, olfactory overload from a very complex scent.

A bit quirky, definitely interesting and artistic. Not something to wear every day, but still oddly cozy and familiar.
