Summer Rain in the Orchard

A hot summer day...it's time, the currants are ripe! The red and black ones, right next to the gooseberries and rhubarb. It's particularly hot today. The sun beats down as I start picking the berries from the bush. First the red ones! Juicy, sweet-tart. Then the black ones, bitter and dark, my fingers get stained. I rub against the warm leaves and sniff....an ethereal dark green rises to my nose, bitter and somehow spicy. What a wonderful cloud!!!
Satisfied and exhausted, I lie down on the meadow and squint into the sun. It has become muggy. Thick clouds are brewing together. It thunders heavily. I quickly seek refuge under the sunshade. And then the rain bursts down from the clouds, onto the warm wood of the fruit trees and bushes. The leaves dance. I close my eyes and enjoy the atmosphere...it envelops me...the bitter fruit on my lap surrounded by spicy green and wet, still warm fruit woods...

Beautifully written. What a lovely scene. It really brings back memories of Grandma's garden.
