Hold the Ball Flat, Doll
Such a beautiful fragrance name. Such great associations.
Purple.... velvet - red - soft - voluminous - warm - heavy - noble - opulent - rich - wealth - Snow White - Rose Red - roses - danger - eroticism - sex...
But actually, I really have to think of velvet *mentally smiling while stroking my hand over a long velvet coat*
Velvet was used for garments, furniture, blankets, etc., because it looked so noble. Available in all sorts of colors, but the typical ones are rather red or black, dark green or blue.
Unfortunately, it is not really long-lasting - due to its texture/manufacture. It becomes dull and flat.
Now I come to the scent.
A bang, like from a rocket on New Year's Eve. Softly hissing of the lit fuse, a whoosh into the air, an explosion and a sea of colors and glitter and oh how beautiful...
Well, and that's it for the little doll - uh, Pourpre. So loud it screams and then sits tired in the corner.
The fragrance notes sound delicious and they are. Lots of amber and powdery like from a white makeup powder box. Fragrance powder - not makeup powder. Amber, slightly smoky and amber-colored. Sometimes dark, sometimes light, depending on how you turn the "stone." Gentle spices, finely ground, no grains! Spicy, slightly bitter and woody. And then flowers that open at night and release their scent abundantly and richly, enchanting and stealing the senses. A flash.... short, crisp, quick and gone.
Yes, "pourpre" has a resemblance to HP, it's just a bit spicier and - apart from the low sillage - you can tell it's a vintage scent. Unfortunately, it becomes weak too quickly, almost skin-close. Only a bit of creamy spice remains.
I found it at an antique flea market as a leftover bottle for a bargain price. The bottle is no longer the prettiest, but I could enjoy the rest of the fragrance a little.
