Well, measured against the other Tauer scents, this is indeed an "L'Eau", but otherwise I expected something different. For the first 20 seconds, it is a fresh, lemony "water", sharp, sour, refreshing... that's how I associate it with scents that have "L'Eau" in the title. Of course, I would have been very surprised if it had remained a completely transparent scent. I only know a handful of Tauer fragrances, but they usually have quite a decent "bite". The "bite" in L'Eau this time is not the "Tauer essence" birch tar, but an unusually strong powdered and creamy musk, with a mini-animalistic touch. I like musk in many facets, especially as a rounding note in the base of fragrances, preferably in the Creed version and/or Tonkin version. Here, in combination with white flowers, it somehow comes off as too sweaty-musty for me. This may have a sexy effect on some, but it rather turns me off from wearing the scent, as it is neither fish nor fowl when viewed as unisex. As L'Eau, it is too little summery and refreshing, and as a "real" Tauer scent, it is too vague and a bit mushy in its fundamental statement/direction. From a woman's perspective, it presents a slightly different picture, especially since many other Tauer scents have a rather masculine touch, and the Kandahar rose might be too powerful for many women. This scent could fit much better with many feminine facets. I don't really get a vacation vibe from it; rather, it gives me a maximum of after-work mood, but it is not a demanding scent either. Only after 4-5 hours, when the monster musk loses a bit of its strength and rotation, can I enjoy the creamy base and follow parts of its inspiration. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of the scent remains for me, too little for the price asked, and also too little for a fragrance that I would like to wear and/or add to my collection. L'Eau does not smell bad at all; it just strays very far from my taste, which I did not necessarily expect (fragrance notes). However, those who miss it won't miss much and are better served with his numbered fragrances. Other scents that evoke vacation vibes can probably do it better, but they are also forgotten more quickly;-)!
Oh yes, the longevity is completely okay at 6 hours (not counting the mini-musk remnants), and the sillage is quite decent, especially in the first hour.
You describe exactly the feelings I had when testing L'Eau - and that's despite being a woman. - Citrusy little water, neither here nor there, interchangeable, and too expensive for that. - Even for a woman, the scent could have a bit more 'character'! I was also disappointed :-(
You're probably completely right. I tested it early on when we didn't have such warm days yet. Back then, the lemon-musk powderiness was still okay. But from an L'Eau, which implies a Cologne freshness, I actually expect something different. I definitely don't think it's bad, though. My rating is even a bit higher than yours.
