Ar-rih min asahra l'maghribia
Born near the Moroccan desert and having spent several months in the desert of Morocco, I know exactly how desert air smells.
Four years ago, I was in Erfoud, not far from this small town lie the sand dunes of Merzouga. Anyone who can handle the heat should visit this magical place.
So, did I miss the point?
So dear Andy, to begin with, I love this scent, but it doesn’t smell like pure desert. When no Chergui (referring to eastern wind currents, not Serge Lutens' creation) is blowing, the wind is hardly present, and in the evening, the air is dry and cool due to the lack of vegetation. If one wants a perfume that comes close to this feeling, I recommend "Dune" by Dior.
"L'air du dèsert marocain" is also dry upon application, but less like a desert and more like the air in a souk in Marrakech, and overall this scent reminds me more of Djemaa el fna, the marketplace in Marrakech.
At first, there’s a bitter and warm note, then soft notes appear from time to time, and finally, both are in perfect harmony. This scent is never sweet, never completely bitter, but always finds the balance-a wonderful fragrance. The inspiration for Mr. Tauer was actually not the pure desert air but the impression one has on the terrace when one simply unwinds in an evening in a desert-adjacent city. The desert air carries all the scents with it: those from the souk, from the local bakery, etc., and thus this beautiful "desert air" is created. So, did I miss the point? Not at all!
